well i hope nobody is quiting over this monday night game,....u know how many people i run acrross that use to wager on football,...and yet now when i talk to them,....they just kinda mumble???? it seems like every year there are a few that the bookies brake and it gets kinda depressing,.....i mean i know i have been raked over the coals,...and i mean hard,......fortunately i was able to weather enough storms to start seeing some things that help me from falling into that catagory that i see alot of my friends fall into,.......i mean we all make bad plays and descisions,....but if you can learn before you become broke and understand handicapping and betting a little bit,.....you can actually do this for fun and not pay the fat lazy guy on the other end of the phone!!!:digit:

The NFL has already fallen into the "beer money" category for me-not doing "that" bad, but just no grasp of logic playing into anything.

NCAAF has always seems to be my sport.

there are a TON of good resources out there guys, great books, great articles....it's a LOT easier to learn this business nowadays than ever before..

people are just lazy and don't want to take the time to do so...

would you guys invest a large amount of your money into the stock market just cause you watch the "closing bell" program on CNBC every night?

if not, then why would you throw your money around betting football just because you watch sportscenter every day and think you know football???

wouldn't you rather take the time to learn about the market (in this case the sportsbetting market) and learn about the fundamentals of handicapping?

warren buffet didn't learn about investing just by reading the newspaper every morning, it tooks years and years of study and practice.

professional investors (which really is the same category that pro gamlers would fall into) get to their level of proficiency only with years and years of study and practice just the same.

if it was easy, everyone would do it! but it's not.

so many people expect to beat sports without getting the education.

and no, jim feist can't give you any shortcuts just because you're willing to pay him $25 a pop. take the time, read the right books, learn the right betting techniques, handicap a few seasons on paper (with no real money! just a pretend bankroll) and learn proper money management!

then once you can attain a 53-54% win percentage as a part-timer (15-20 hours per week), you're probably good enough to make it at this business as a full-timer and hitting 55-56% (with 50-60 hours per week)

if you're willing to invest the time wisely, you'll come out ahead in the long run and it will all have been worth it.

ttinco,...im glad to hear your response,.....hey im no prohit,...i just know that it became real important for me to understand the way the linesmakers work and understand it real quick,......lost alot and what kinda saved me or helped me understand some things was the horses my fiend owned,....kept me afloat and able to play,...........anyhow with the nfl,...please do not be afraid to play a off the wall pick,....i mean i dont care who u r or what news paper articles u read, or what the profesional lines makers put the lines out at,.....this is so much more a buisness than a sport,...LETS MAKE MONEY!!!! forget what is suppose to happen:toast:

anyway, sorry you guys lost out on PIT/BAL. i figured a lot of people lost out on PIT, by all the postings last night.

hey, is there a way to delete a message once you post it? or once it's up, it's up for good?

Get the rope.

if 50-60 hours could get the sharp player 55-65%......ummmm

Nevermind, I'm going to bed.

ha ha, i didn't mean that as an absolute, as in:

50-60 hours per week of handicapping = automatic 55-56% winning percentage

that's not what i meant at all. did it come across that way?

i was just giving examples of the hours a lot of successful part-timers put into their plays, then compared it to what a lot of seasoned pros put into their plays.

there are so many guys out there that think they can just watch espn all day, and surf the net reading peter king articles and pick winners.

it takes a lot more than that. i wasn't trying to say anything other than that.

i'm sure there are gambling junkies who spend 70 hours a week doing what they 'think' is research, but they still come out as losers.

time spent alone isn't an indicator of future success, it's the amount of 'quality time' that is important. and most people don't know what would classify as 'quality time'.

hey christian, yeah i know i have come so far over the years, that with college football, i tend to not have the full amount of time as i use to, but gosh it is so much more profitable for a player to get some lines early and (during) later on in the week,.....preferably from a big, notable place and from the smaller cut throat place,.....then go through and look at the united states colleges best teams in order that the so called experts have ranked them(thats so we dont have to,...hey just take thier expert rankings,...lol) and then look at all the time changes,........if the game is moved up,...lean towards the favorite,...if it is delayed,...lean towards the doggy,......also look and see what games are on tv(the week you are studying and the next week),...(and what your local bookie, who is generally a bit out of the loop has the lines at)..........start from there and improve on those staples and you can put winning weeks together.....from there your percentages will go up as will your confidence!!! gl all:howdy:

To Christian
I Agree Totally With Your Comments On Research Etc.
The Application Is The Key
A Good Example Is That I Did Extensive Research On The Breeders Cup Came Up With The Conclussion That Most Races Were Extremely Difficult With So Many Evenly Matched Horses Played Them Anyway And Got Killed
Here Is A Classic Example Of Doing Your Homework And Then Not Applying
The Research Which So Much Time Was Spent On.

it's a lot more than just that too....so many beginners want to believe in trends and systems...

"play any home favorite on spotlighted halloween games, 18-2 ATS past 20 years"

"take DAL, coming off a bye and playing WASH, while wearing blue jerseys on games that start at 4:05pm on all second sundays in october, 11-1 ATS since 1975!"

obviously, i'm just making these up but there's a lot of them out there just as ridiculous....

but people just wanna believe! and they follow them until they run themselves into the ground. then they just assume that they need to find a new/different trend and that that'll solve all their problems.

they never stop to think, maybe it's the ENTIRE trend handicapping system that doesn't work. what happened between 2 teams, years ago, with players who are now retired from the game or playing for different teams, has nothing to do with what's going to happen in an upcoming game.

but people will spend countless hours each week researching and trying to find new trends to follow. this is just another example of plenty of time spent...but wasted.

just because you spend a ton of hours a week handicapping, it won't mean anything if you don't spend those hours doing the proper research.
