The Importance of Keeping Daily Records

I would assume that the vast majority of sports gamblers in these forums have a record keeping system of some kind. I don't think anybody would argue that this is not an important element which at the very least can help avoid disaster. Record keeping systems will of course vary from player to player

I'm would also think that personal record keeping should include a day by day figure of profit or loss.

The latter I think, while necessary to me at least, can help you avoid disaster and perhaps even more easily create it. The major pitfall, of course, is chasing just to save the day. It took me a surpisingly long time to balance the need for this type of record keeping while not placing so much emphasis on it that I would end up playing, lets say, a Hawaii game that I never intended to play and then playing it for more than a truely well handicapped game early in the day.

That pitfall is just so important to avoid and it takes discipline to do so. It may be the greatest obstacle to your success and the greatest gift you can give the man. Just take the loss and on to tommorrow. You must learn to do this.

But that being said and hopefully while having avoided any major chasing, I'd be interested in how long of a daily winning streak is your record breaking personal best of all time.

Great post?(I presume you meant jonesy, not jonsey) What exactly was so great about it?

And you think wrongly, Mr. Jones...

"I don't think anybody would argue that this is not an important element which at the very least can help avoid disaster"

...I will irrefutably argue that "record keeping" is not an important element of betting, specifically it can NOT help avoid disaster(meaning chasing). One can keep meticulous records, including profit and loss, and still chase. Conversely, one can keep no records at all, and not chase.

I do agree with you about the perils of chasing when losing though.

I agree with STEWART that record keeping alone will not impede one from "chasing".

Though if you are keeping accurate records, you can easily quantify how well you do on your late nite plays and determine if in fact you ARE chasing with ill results.

As for how important records are, any business worth it's salt would be foolish if they didn't track production and performance.

Knowing how to properly analyze your meticulous records is another class.

JONES, my personal best for Winning Days is 12.

My personal best for Winning Selections is 16.

I have it on my wall. It was a series of MLB selections placed over two days between 7/26 and 7/27 2004.

I raised my bank over 25 units in just over 24 hours.

Then I calculated what I would have made had I been able to piggyback them one after the other, rolling over the winnings into a virtual 16way parlay.

The base unit was about $10 and it would have rolled over 16 times to be about $111,000.

I still live in my townhouse here in North Clearwater, but I was THAT CLOSE to joining you down there in that HighRent district.....

Now you know why I keep coming back to the counter.
