What the NHL is doing is making a big statement to get the attention of the ADD riddled US population. Americans are scoring junkies, and that is why the growth of soccer has been so slow (well, at least until the southern border became nothing more than a line in the sand).

The US is money-ratings money and ad money are what fill a league up with superstars making their zillion dollar contracts.

It's more exciting, but I'm sure a lot of old time purists are fuming, and I can certainly understand why.

Watching the Blackhawks-Blues and 2/3rds of the game was power plays. WTF. 2-2 in the third. Bad enough I had St Louis, glad I didn't have the under too.

ttinco sums up my thoughts on that,....hey if it isnt extreme scoring or atleast what have you done lately,....it doesnt sell and this does not fit in with the american sports,.......ever notice how exciting a certain sport gets when its contract is up for renewal??? unfortunately hockey will always and i mean always be a back seat to watched programming on tv,....i mean maybee if they included a topless hooters league it might get some ratings,......the nhl is trying there best with what they have,...lets face it though it is still an almost impossible sell!!!:icon_conf

Still got alot of work to get the fans... At least in some cities.

Did you see the stands in the St. Louis game? It looked like the UTEP/Tulane game a couple of weeks ago... with both teams technically on the road. Mind you the fans that were at the game got pumped up when the Blues tied it up late in the third.

Not saying 8-4 games are good, but they are better than the alternative. The NHL was pretty pathetic the last decade or so. If a team was up a goal going into the 3rd period the game was over. if a team was up 2 goals at any point in the game, the game was over. The NHL turnedcinto soccer and was losing ground to the other sports.

Ottawa is just awesome!!

Tonight they host the defending Stanley Cup Champion Lightning, a team with revenge on their minds.

I agree that it is getting ridiculous but it still beats that shitty product they were selling 2 years. That shit was unwatchable.
