FSU down 7, NC State, punting from own end zone decides to take a safety

Now only lead by 5, 53 seconds left but now if FSU scores they lose...I say punt it and take your chances....

Time will tell if NC State gets burnt here.

FSU receiver drops ball at sideline at NC state 38...WOW- he would have got out of bounds

NC State INT, game over, after the dropped pass at NC state 38 pretty much changed the final possesion...

After being sacked he had to wing it and picked off !

Nc State beats FSU for the 4th time under Hollywood Chuck Amato

pretty ballsy to take the safety. worked out this time, but not sure it was the right call. Yea, you gain 30 yards of field position and take away the possibility of a blocked punt, but FSU still has to score a td, and after a safety, the td give them the victory. Doesnt seem like the 30 yards is worth that, especially in the college game where the clock stops on first downs.

J-man,

I think the fact that Florida State blocked the last two NC State punts may have factored into that strategy. Plus, the punter didn't have his full drop because of field position. Taking those two things into consideration, I think the safety was the correct call.

ah...wasnt aware of this fact. that changes things somewhat. although still a gutsy call.

Two blocked punts for FSU and not a full dropback from punter. Fla. St. offense was nonexistent. Ball on the 1 and stepping out for a safety was a no-brainer in this situation.
I can't believe anyone would question that call given the game situation and their punt protect.

Yes they did...I still didn't like it...it worked out though, if the receiver doesn't drop the 1st down pass at the NC State 38, they would have had 43 seconds to go 38 yards for the win...it was a tough call and it worked...

The FSU return guy could have sprung the punt too...as they often do in college...
