Why does it take so long to announce MLB award winners?

I can't for the life of me figure out why it takes more than a month after the season ended to announce the winners. Today is Election Day, and many, many more votes will be counted than the votes for player awards, yet by tonight all the election results will pretty much be known. Anyone know the logic behind this?

Of course I have money tied up that can't be used until the award is announced. Anyone know which day is NL MVP day?

Simple, MLB attempts to keep baseball in the news as much as possible during the off-season.

After the awards are completed, the baseball winter meetings begin shortly thereafter.

The logic sir is that they wait until no one gives a shit, then they try and steal a few headlines from other sports, but who really gives a shit about it at this point, other than a few bettors?

NL MVP is the last one announced...i believe both managers of year are tomorrow, then NL Cy young the next day, AL MVP on the 14th and NL MVP is on the 15th.
