I get sent away for a while. Is that what you would expect for most people? Maybe a $ fine? Some punishment, right? Lying under oath? Yep...something bad is going to happen. OR IS IT?

>>>Baseball star Rafael Palmeiro will not be prosecuted on perjury charges after lawmakers said Thursday there isn’t enough evidence to prove he lied when he told a congressional panel under oath that he had “never used steroids” — six weeks before failing a steroid test.<<<

This makes me MAD. The law applies to everyone (except the very wealthy and/or a popular and wealthy baseball star.) I am realizing that I fit in quite poorly with the caste system that is developing within our country. MAD, I tell you! tulsa

How did he commit perjury? There was no evidence that the statement he made while under oath was a lie. He merely said that he had never used steroids, the suspension resulted from steroid use AFTER his testimony before congress therefore their is no perjury.

If congress found evidence that he had used steroids before his testimony before congress, that would be a different story.

That's correct...technically he's not guilty of anything, besides looking like a real douchebag.

exactly, they can't find him guilty of lying for taking something after the testimony. what is really stupid is congress gets all these baseball players up in front of them, swear them in, and then talk about steroids which i don't give a rat's ass about. Why couldn't they swear in those oil execs the other day so they wouldn't be up there lying and talking about things that have a major impact on the economy and many people's way of life in this country. Those people just made record money from high oil prices and just sat back laughing at congress with their money eyes!:money:

Actually guys, I understand what you are saying...but that is why you INVESTIGATE. You find sources and witnesses then you prosecute the law. I agree about the Oil Execs, too, by the way.

But, yes, if congress really wanted to investigate they could find the smoking guns to indict Palmero. I wish they would, too. Why, you ask? Because he lied before congress, that's why. At least McGuire was smart enough to stay away from lying. tulsa

after further review i just noticed that May does in fact come after March ..

for some reason i brain farted and thought the hearings were later in the year.

i am pretty sure the test he failed was given in May .

Congress did investigate this matter...

"We couldn't find any evidence of steroid use prior to his testimony," House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., said in releasing a 44-page report.
"We have a responsibility, an obligation, to investigate it, and that's what we've done," Davis said during a news conference in the same hearing room where Palmeiro had testified in March.

Davis said the steroid for which Palmeiro tested positive is detectable for three to four weeks, shorter than the gap between his failed test and Capitol Hill appearance, and therefore "could not have been in his system the day he testified."

depends on your definition of the word: USE

"Oh, yes I injected steroids in my ass, but I didn't use them for anything."

depends on your definition of the word: STEROID

"Oh yes I injected human growth hormones in to my arm, but I didn't use steriods for anything."

Best one yet:

"I didn't use steroids, my doctor did"
