Chris Carpenter won 20+ games with his filthy stuff and today is announced your 2005 NL Cy Young award winner!!

Carpenter, who finished 21-5 with a 2.83 earned-run average and 213 strikeouts along with an NL leading 7 complete games, led the Cardinals to the NL Central title, garnered 19 first-place votes and 132 points

He joined Bob Gibson (68 and 70) as the only other Cardinal to win the award.

Following a loss to Boston on June 8, Carpenter went on one of the most amazing runs baseball has seen in quite a long time. In each of his next 16 starts, Carpenter lasted at least seven innings and allowed no more than three earned runs, and the Cardinals won all 16 games. :monsters- He totaled 17 straight starts without the Cardinals losing, and 18 in a row without being charged with a defeat himself.

He aslo went 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 3 postseason starts!

I find that fact almost hard to believe, should have been some other cardinal somewhere along the way!

anyway, good for Carpenter, he deserved it

Maybe Tudor. And speaking of John Tudor, Fish and I gave him some tips on how to pick up women one night at the Radison Inn in Minneapolis. Tudor played for the Red Sox at the time. I'm sure he was as successful picking up women after our discussion, as he was for the Cards. :smoker2:

Congrats on that call and to carpenter. Also congrats on the great calls of the Vikings being at least 11-5, the Cardinals winning the WS, and Hawkeyes winning the big ten.i

Matt Morris went 22-8 with a low 3 era in 2001 and placed 3rd in cy young.

John Tudor got 2nd place in 1985 because of some rookie coke sniffer.....:coke:

Tudor finished 1985 at 21-8 with a 1.93 ERA and led the National League with ten shutouts. He also started that season 1-7!!!!

Bob Forsch always had low ERAs and a couple no hitters but was always around a .500 pitcher record wise.

sorry I think willis should have. He doesn't have the offense like the cards did and he still pitched great. Even better, he was a good hitter but that doesn't matter. Willis should of won the award.

Now if he could only get a ring to go with it

he can. all he needs to do is drive 5 and a half hours up interstate 55 and take one from one of those south side guys.

you didn't throw anyone over any railings during that game did you?? I witnessed a Darryl Strawberry HR go off my dad's hand during one of those heated rivalry games! He had a bruise for about a week.
