Are books getting hurt?

Have been hearing on the QT that college football has not been great and that N.F.L. teasers have been burying the books, especially in October.

Yet there really has been no rumblings about this in the gambling forums.

Are the books getting hurt and just keeping it quiet or is it business as usual and they are making the money they expected to make?

What do you think?

I've been thinking the same thing, how can they not be getting hammered with all the favorites and square favorite teaser combinations winning so often , two yrs in a row now.

Every week I think, this has to be the week it doesn't happen and every sunday night its all favorites...sickening.

congrats to all of the people who rode this trend out, at this point its all gravy for them .

Getting back to the original question.

Books are not losing, but for the majority I am sure they were expecting alot greater profits than they have generated this football season thus far.

6 pt teaser even money

Green Bay
Atlanta -3

NYJ
Carolina -3

Should take the 6.5 point teaser to bring it down to 2.5. Or is there a book that grades a push a win?

Well, one should NEVER have money in ANY book they cannot afford to lose.........but having said that, when DECEMBER 1ST rolls into town, would recommend everybody start to take a serious look at any places that they may seem to be over extended in.

Why?

Because the sportsbooks biggest moneymaking season(football), is coming very close to the end.

One postive in the books favor more so than say 3 years ago is that many have casinos/pokerrooms that get back alot of the money that punters may have gained through football/sports.

At least, that would seem the case to me.

Agree?

That makes sense for the casino part, but I think that as far as the poker rooms go, they're probably not "earning back" what they lost to the players. There are poker players there that are getting the bulk of someone's winnings if they just took it and ran to the poker table.

Well said. I start drawing down all my accounts throughout January and leave only enough in for the Superbowl. After things settle, I re-up for hoops. Still remember Aces Gold. Let us never forget.

If I have any doubt whatsoever about a book, I pull most or all out during December.

Back to the original question-I think it depends on who the book is catering to.

The sharps and BW's of the world are in hell, but Joe square can't be losing money right now. A lot of games have played out true to form and the "simple logic" plays are on fire.

I think the books are probably a lot happier about a bunch of average Joe's doing well (and running their mouths about it) than taking another beating from the big boys.

It has to be great advertising when the public gets a 2-3 week run like this. Good time for books to toss out a fat referral bonus. Get those winners telling their friends how much fun they are having making :money8:

Fish, both me and MFG nailed that teaser at -2.5 each when it opened.

Can someone summarize the aces gold thing. I hear about it sometimes.

I really hope you guys get Matchbook on board for this very reason. Betting exchanges totally cancel out this type of risk.

You mean betting exchanges like sporting options? They went down and took alot of people with them who thought just that.

Well unless the place just decides to steal everyones money it should be safe. Which BTW is a risk with any site.

They just get a cut of every winning bet. Seems like a sound and risk free strategy.

They are flooding the exchange themselves, initially.

In other words, you're actually matching wagers that THEY are offering. As volume starts to pick up, they will reign in their exposure and hope that things run smoothly.

Otherwise, you could be trying to make a wager on a game and not have anything out there to match. Do that a couple of times, and you will give up and go home

I'm not sure of matchbook's model -- and they've posted here, so hopefully they can chime in if one of the mods links them to this post -- but tradesports have used market makers, and having seen the agreement, they get people to agree to put up a market at a fixed spread, in return for lower comission and other perks.

Are you kidding, degenerates, are degenerates, they find a way to lose money.

Boise helped the books tonight, getting pounded. Line started at 10, was driven down to 8:drink: but, that little drive add some much needed :money: in my pocket
