I downloaded a .avi file from off the net and when I tried to play it through Microsoft Media Player, it gave me this error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

:icon_conf I don't know what to do? Help?

Use Winamp instead. Better player anyway.

Thanks for replying TT, now how do I get it to play on Quicktime as opposed to Windows Media Player. I never figured out how to change the default? Is there anyway that I can play it on Windows Media Player. I think I need to down a DVD decoder or something???

Right click on it and select "open with"....and select "choose program" (or something like that). Select the program & there should also be a check box for "always use this for this file type"
