I don't think I understand how to scalp...

How exactly do you scalp things?

I was trying to do the math, but I can't seem to get it right.
Let's take the broncos/raiders game for instance.

If I had +109 on broncos -3
and -105 on oakland +3

I thought that would be a scalp, because the positive number was bigger than the negative number. Is this wrong?

Because I did the math and if
If <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Denver</st1:place></st1:City> wins by more than 3…

+109

-100

-------

+109

<o:p> </o:p>

If <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Denver</st1:place></st1:City> loses or wins by less than 3…

-100

+95.42

----------

-4.58

so this isn't a scalp.

How does a scalp WORK, exactly, and how do you recognize one?

whoops.

Up there, it should say

+109

-100

-------

+9

Also, this is assuming $100 bets on each side.

This word has several meanings....

One use is to bet both sides on the money line in such a way as to guarantee profit. For example, if New York is playing Chicago and you bet New York -140 and Chicago +155, you have a 15 cent scalp. Another use of scalp is to describe what a bookie might do if he thinks a line is going to move.

Suppose a bookie takes a bet on Dallas -6 from a sharp, and predicts that other bookie soon will be calling to also place bets on Dallas. If the bookie immediately bets Dallas -6 with other bookies and simultaneously changes the line at which he accepts bets to Dallas -7, he is said to be scalping.

So for a scalp to work, both of them have to be positive in terms of odds (+101 greater)?

I thought you could have one positive and one negative.

You have it right.....regardless of who wins, you win $9

But I don't.

If Oakland wins, then I'll lose my $100 on Denver at +109, and I'll win $95 and some odd cents for my Oakland bet.

How did I guarantee myself $9?

Oakland -100
KC +109

Oakland wins and you break even.

KC wins and you have a 9 cent scalp for a 9 dollar net win.

HAHAHA!!!! THANK YOU!!!

I see. You can't bet both sides evenly. You have to bet the negative one to win $100 and you have to bet the negative one to win the difference.

So for my example, I'd have to bet $100 on Denver and then $105 on Oakland.

I see now. THANK YOU! :)

I really do appreciate it. Good luck to y'all on your picks!:103631605

If I had +109 on broncos -3
and -105 on oakland +3

I was using this example above.

100 to win +109
-105 to win 100

You can only profit in this example.
