Does playing in fantasy leagues interfere with handicapping?

I believe it does.

Several years ago, I stopped playing fantasy because it often clouded judgement about teams/games. Also, fantasy takes much time, so of course leaves less time to handicap pointspread matchups/props.

Many dime + players seem to get more thrills winning a few hundred bucks in a fantasy league and don't care if they drop 10 dimes in a weekend as long as their fantasy stats are superb.

Totally, I have gotten to the point I need to use my sports betting to cover my fantasy teams. I have about 4 in every sport, I need to win one just to break even.:icon_conf

Next year I plan to drop fantasy play myself. Its a total annoyance, especially when you think about how you tend to give it equal billing but the stakes you play for usually equal about one bet or less.

I have never played fantasy football but for years I was in a NL Rotisserie Auction League until it broke up two years ago. Baseball used to be my best sport, stuck mostly to NL, until the last two years in which it has been a total bust. In my case it helped me. God I miss auction day too.

Other way around for me. I used to be a fantasy football guru, but now I spend all my time handicapping and could give a hoot about how any of my fantasy players are doing. The entry fee for my league is often dwarfed by action on any particular game.

This year is my first year wagering, and I've abandoned one FF league, while taking 6th of 10 in the other league.. Fantasy football can jade your viewpoint on a particular wager, as well as take time away from the research you -should- be spending handicapping..

If you win at FF, you have bragging rights and a few $$.. If you win at wagering, you have a sizeable $$$ account.. No contest which option I'm going to take..
