I think I am going to Lake Tahoe for Super Bowl week with a group of friends who have gone for years .

It is a Ski trip . Amongst other things like drinking and gambling .

I have never been skiing in my life.

Any advice ? Other than make sure my health insurance is paid up..

i played golf yesterday with a buddy who said the same thing. he also said the odds of breaking anything drop considerably when snowboarding compared to skiing..

I think skiing is WAY easier. Much much easier to keep your balance. At least for me.

Skiing is alot easier... Alot easier to turn, stop, slow down, snow boarding is very tiring for a beginner...Plus it's easier to get on and off the lifts skiing...

Highly recomend you ski...You will have a MUCH better time... Get the skiing down first, then make the switch to boarding... Skiing is pretty similiar to skating, very easy, you have control once you can snow plow your good to go..

Unless you are a skateboarding hotshot, skiing is the way to go.

Also, since you are truly a "never ever" skier-take a lesson. It's the best thing you'll ever do for yourself....even if it's just a 1/2 day (1 full day is better). That lesson will be worth it's weight in gold just in prevented frustration (yours and the people who you are going with).

I think most people who started skiing started with a pair of ski's...I have surfed and ski'd for most of my life and the two are pretty much have the same difficulty IMO.
Like TT says though, the skateboarders and surfers adapt to snowboarding very easily, and for anyone just starting out I would suggest skiing over boarding.

BTW, skiing is easier after a couple :bong:, but that does not hold true for a few :drink: .

Avoid the alcohol-it really messes with your balance, and even a couple beers is very noticable on skis.

I would consider myself adequate at both and much more enjoy skiing to boarding. Learning either for the first time can get somewhat frustrating, but invest in some lessons to make it enjoyable. Even if it is only the 1/2 dya lesson, listen, practice and have a blast and have the sac to crash. Don't go out there expecting it, have fun and the crash will come! Enjoy!! Ski Apache in Ruidoso, NM rocks!!! Best kept secret in the southwest IMO! :103631605

OK, here's what you want to do. Rent a snowboard and find out which
chair lift takes you to a diamond run with large moguls. Just kidding!
:suomi:

Seriously though, I agree with whoever said that you may want to learn to ski first, then make the switch to boarding. Maybe some people just take to boarding better, but I think if you take a ski lesson the first day (as someone mentioned) you will get the fundamentals down (how to get on a chair lift, get off a chair lift, stop, speed up, turn, balance, etc.). Spend your first trip skiing (and be patient, it will come!). Then when you get to the intermediate level, you can try new things. Just my opinion.
