Already have a 7 yr old female german shepard mix (75lbs), who needs a friend. Don't want another big dog in house, not enogh room. Was looking at Jack Russell Terrier but have heard too many horror stories, lately. Something that is fairly active and doesn't shed too bad( the shepard sheds enough for 2 dogs)? Would be in indoor dog. Anybody have suggestions?

Beagles are cool smaller dogs. They are active don't shed, but are a little yappy, but that can be solved with simple voice training

Yes....Do not get another....I have 3 2 great pyrness and one 40# mutt and dog's are a pain in the ass. I'am so glad my wife and kids take care of them, But when you want to travel it is one more thing you need to take care of. Or go away for a long weekend, it sucks....If you want one of mine i will pay for you to take it and throw in 1 year supply of food...........G.

I totally disagree. Your girl needs a playmate. I got two dogs here, a Great Pyrrenese and Border Collie/Black Lab mix. They are the best of friends and if they arent together they sit and mope. Do you dog a favor and get her a playmate.

We have a havanese dog...not well known, but very friendly and cute. Great dog. I highly suggest you look into them...I think they're mainly show dogs I think, but ours has made a wonderful friend.

don't you guys beleive the 2 dos are better than 1 dog? They can be friends. What about cocker spaniels, had one as a kid and was a good dog

Only a few small breeds I'm familiar with:

My parents have a dog that is Pomeranian, Chihuahua, and Mini Doberman Pincer. Very cool dog, but sheds.

A friend has one that is 1/2 Jack Russell Terrior, 1/2 Chihuahua. Doesn't seem to shed, very mellow when indoors.

Grandparents have 2 Bichon Frise's. No shedding, one is a total attention whore/baby, the other is so laid back and cool it's amazing they are the same breed.

The dog I will be getting in the next couple of years is a greyhound. I know you don't want a big dog, but they can be in the high 40 pounds I think (not TOO BIG). Very loyal and sleep alot.....they just like to curl up in a corner somewhere....only thing is they need to run somewhere.

I think any of the small breeds I mentioned are worth looking into, whether pure bred or mixed.

Beagles are awesome dogs. Definitely go with a beagle. Only two kinds of dogs I would ever get...Beagle or Lab. Have had two beagles and both were/are totally different but both great and have/did have a lot of personality. Whatever you do don't get anything like a shitsu, a poodle or a scotty, etc. Those freakin' things are so ugly.

I had a shit zu and a maltese. Both great dogs, maltese
doesn't shed and has a beautiful white coat. Loving dog
and they want to be with you all the time. Not the smartest
dog on the block, but gentle and nice. Only get to about
8-10 lbs, unless you over feed them.
