Just saw this at CBS....
Hard evidence began to replace conjecture Monday that Florida is headed for impending doom without a new stadium deal: The Marlins fired the first shot in what is expected to be a major roster restructuring by agreeing to send pitcher Josh Beckett and third baseman Mike Lowell to Boston in exchange for a couple of young prospects, shortstop Hanley Ramirez and pitcher Anibal Sanchez, and another, unnamed minor-league pitcher, sources told CBS Sportsline.com.
With Beckett and Lowell gone, Carlos Delgado may be next. (AP)
The deal is not expected to become official until the players pass physicals and the paperwork is finished, but it immediately improves the Red Sox and allows Florida to accomplish its winter goal of chopping significant sums away from what was a franchise-record $65 million payroll in 2005.
