I was thinking, if I could do a few things over again, I think I would learn either to be a 1)Orthodontist or 2)Dermatologist.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

As far as i can tell neither job has an on call aspect, neither requires anything but regular office hours, no weekends and both pay a ton!<o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

Anyone know someone in either profession? Since i had braces and have had many visits to dermatologists over the years, (warts, acne when i was a teenager) i am very familiar with both. I realize both require graduate school and dermatologists are probably required to go to Med school. But i would think Ortho's are much less difficult, but i could be wrong. Anyway, some insight here would be good to hear.<o:p></o:p>

i work in an office where an orthodontist practices. Out of all the dental professions offered, Orthodontics is the easiest and most profitable one to go into. O yea, and endodontics is also good but very selective. Dermatology is also another bs profession.

Teach at a college.

You will have 2-3 classes a week for a total of 6-9 hours of class. Most places you can go to work on MWF only if you wish. Most places you will have teaching assistants, homework graders and the like to take care of paperwork. Class preparation takes minimal time once you have taught the class before. TOTAL freedom of thought and freedom of opinion. No boss to kiss ass. No sales to make, no pressure to do much of anything but publish a few papers every year. A month long winter break. 2 and 1/2 month long summer break. One week spring break.

The pay is NOT great and you will earn a lot more if you take a regular job but you just can't beat the freedom.

It seem chiropractor's have a pretty goo amount of leedway with pricing and overcharging insurance Co's etc...and have a pretty automatic cash cow being connected to lawyers..

I also notice they have short shifts, take off in the mid day...they do pull some weekend hours though.

are you already some kind of doctor or dentist?

To become an orthodontist is extremely difficult. From what I understand, the spots in each dental school for orthodontists go to the best of the best, because they all want it, due to the high reward/time ratio. Anyhow, dental school isn't much different than medical school, I think it's at least 4 years after undergrad.

I would imagine it's the same for dermatology.

Pharmacists work some strange hours (usually between 9 am and 10 pm but many stores in larger cities are staying open all night.) However, they have great pay and are in demand. They work only 40/week or so and many are paid hourly (which is a good thing when asked to stay late to finish up or to fill in for someone.) Around here they are paid approx. $50/hour for a forty hour week. tulsa

Actually it's not totally true that you have freedom of opinion. College professors have to follow a curriculum that is set by others. It's tough to add new material in the class without having it reviewed by someone else.

That being said, professors can make relatively good money but not like doctors or lawyers. Once they get tenure it's hard to fire them. They can make up to $100k/yr. while only working 9 months.

Freedom of opinion has NOTHING to do with what is taught in class. Nothing.

In class, you just lecture. If you're teaching calculus, you just teach whatever the curriculum outlines and that is it. Nobody teaches opinion in calculus classes anyways, so in that regard, you're half right.

Now as far as "opinions" are concerned, it is much different. You can write a paper on WHATEVER you want to and nobody will fire/reprimand you for it. It has to be a rational thought, it must be factual and it cannot be baseless but the conclusion/opinion that you form is something you have TOTAL control over.

Just because IBM donated computers to your college doesn't mean you can't be critical of them. If Walmart donates a few scholarships, you're still allowed to trash them for their out-sourcing and low wages. THAT is what I mean by "opinion" - it has nothing to do with lecture.

Hello English friends. One of my jobs back home in Kazakhstan was to work with animals and to make them "have explosion, for liquid, to make them have more animals". my"speciality is camels".I can make camels have liquid explosions in less than 20 minutes. Goats are very easy, however, "less than a minute".

One time there was a camel who could not perform anymore. "Let Borat try". A detailed story is thentold about how I saved the day.

I was thinking this too, here in champaign we just had THREE new Walgreen's open up, and i was thinking, each of these needs some pharmacists to work there, they must grow on trees..

No, obviously, but here is more info to enlighten you/us

So what does it take to be an orthodontist? An orthodontist is a specialist in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. All orthodontists are dentists, but only about six percent of dentists are orthodontists. Admission to orthodontic programs is extremely competitive and selective. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

An orthodontist must complete college requirements before starting a three-to five-year graduate program at a dental school accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA). After dental school, at least two or three academic years of advanced specialty education in an ADA-accredited orthodontic program is required to be an orthodontists. The program includes advanced education in biomedical, behavioral and basic sciences. The orthodontic student learns the complex skills required to manage tooth movement (orthodontics) and guide facial development (dentofacial orthopedics).<o:p></o:p>

Only dentists who have successfully completed these advanced specialty education programs may call themselves orthodontists.<o:p></o:p>

I see what you mean now. I thought you meant freedom to teach whatever you want.
