The New York Mets reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday to acquire Carlos Delgado and $7 million from the Florida Marlins for first baseman Mike Jacobs and pitcher Yusmeiro Petit, a baseball official familiar with the talks said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the deal was not final

New York would receive $7 million from the Marlins as part of the trade to offset the $48 million Delgado is owed over the next three seasons. The first baseman turned down the Mets' offer last January to accept a $52 million, four-year contract from the Marlins. But while New York offered a no-trade clause, Florida did not.

The Mets look like they are on their way to becoming the Knicks of Major League Baseball. At least the Yankees make the playoffs while overpaying people.

I think this is a good trade for both teams.

How many bigtime stars can the Mets aquire before they win?

Alomar, Vaughn, Pedro, Beltran and now Delgado, they always bring these players in about 75% of their careers over

obviously Piazza is not coming back .

The Mets want Billy Wagner to come to New York, and the bullpen ace sounds as if he likes their sales pitch

After two days of meetings with the pitcher and his wife, Sarah, the Mets made an initial contract offer to Wagner on Tuesday as they try to improve one of their biggest weaknesses from last season.

Delgado and Floyd are very similar big left handed bats...not often you see to big left handed bats, I assume one will bat 3rd and one 5th.

Marlins undergoing a major retooling.

Can't really blame them...they have some of the brightest and most talented young stars in the league, yet they can't even get fans to fill half the stadium. They can't pay big contracts if they can't generate any revenue.

The Mets could fuck up the '27 Yankees. I thought Carlos Beltran was the final piece of the puzzle?

It's "Los Mets" by the way.

NJ sports authority is talking to the owner of the Marlins about considering a move up north.

Jacks #12 of the year.

419 of his career. #40 on the all time list.

I think he has a good 6 years left putting him at about 600 HR's.
