I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone lose with four of kind before. but yeah, that is a pretty tempting jackpot. I'm playing a tourney on partypoker right now as I write this. maybe i'll check er out...

I was part of a bad beat jackpot in Louisiana earlier this month. The jackpot was only $80,000, but it was nice to receive a piece of it. We were at the $5-5 no limit table. The table was short handed at only 5 people too!! The bad beat got $40,000, the winner of the hand got $20,000 and the other three shared $20,000. Of course I was one of the ones who shared the $20,000

Having said the above statement, NEVER EVER play at an internet site just to get the jackpot. Do you really think that Party Poker wants the jackpot to be hit anyway??

A friend of mine got a share of the bad beat once at Party and said they pay right away.

As for 4 of a kind losing... Last week at the Bellagio, I was playing in 15/30 and saw straight flush (hit on river) beating 4 of kind 5s (both using their hole cards).
So it does happen... And of course no bad beat there.

Of course they would like it to be hit. Think about the publicity they will get from that.
