Is gambling for "entertainment only" actually entertaining?

I say no way, and that is why the casinos make so much money. I mean, a middle class guy like myself could sit all weekend at a casino and play 5 dollar blackjack, and not lose that much. But who the hell does that? So boring to me that if I gamble, I have to push the limits for it to be fun. That's why I pretty much have sworn off gambling, except for poker and sports. Does anyone on here enjoy playing at low limits just for fun? I guess if you have your buddies, a hot dealer, and lots of drinks, it is fun for a little while. But even that gets boring after a bit. These casinos claim that they are there to provide entertainment, and claim they don't want anyone to bet over their head, but we all know that's bullshit. They just have a vice that takes advantage of one of the great human weaknesses......greed. I'm starting to see just how corrupt they are, offering prizes for cashing paychecks at the casino and stuff like that. I don't think my conscience could let me open up a casino, even if I was a billionaire.

And bars don't want people to over consume. And tabacco companies don't want kids to start smoking.

"Paycheck Jackpot" is a good example here in Vegas. They cash your paycheck and give you an extry in a draw for a car or 10k. Just being good corporate citizens? Or maybe hoping with that paycheck in your pocket now in cash......

To me betting low limits is no fun at all.
The fun of gambling is that rush you get when you have money on the line and that amount of money means something tangible to you.
This is probably how a lot of people get into trouble with money management. Personally, I save my money management for offshore sports gambling, since I very rarely go to casinos.

I only have a few favorite teams. I believe that having some $$ on the games is what makes them interesting ! It doesn't have to be a weeks pay to make the game interesting to me ! Perhaps a steak dinner or free buffet works for me.... especially if it's a wager with a longtime fellow competitor like RedEye LOL:finger: :toast:

Illni, agree 100%. I can sit at a $25 BJ table, ad have fun though, I think it is entertaining. I really like to pittle with craps, I know you said you like that. When I get out there, we have to go play some $1 craps at Casino Royale, I get a kick out of that, pretty fun.

I have slowed down a lot at the table, like to keep my bets under the $100 range now. But to say the least, still entertaining.

I kick myself in the ass for not betting enough on a game more often than I do for betting too much. Over the long haul that's not really such a bad thing IMO.

Gary Loveman (CEO of Harrah's) really cares about you and me. He doesn't want us to gamble over our heads or when we are feeling bad. He gives us the number to call if we need help with our gambling.

That guy is a Saint.
