How does an overflowing toilet cause an alarm to go off?

So I'm sitting here watching the game and I hear my alarm going off. It wasnt armed or anything. I go into the bathroom and see the carpet soaked and about a foot of water inside the bathroom. Good thing the alarm went off it could have been worse.

Is it normal for a flood to trigger an alarm? Police came and everything, lol

I have seen home alarm kits that include a flood protection (that would work in case that you are on vacation and some pipe/hose breaks up and then you return to find that you have a pool in your basement)

perhaps yours has that feature?
