Twice the annoucers said that Nebraska (now well ahead at Colorado) is already bowl eligible, having won 6 games.

Right, they've won six games. But was I sleeping when they changed the rules? My understanding is that for a team to go to a bowl they have to win 6 games VERSUS DIV 1-A TEAMS.

One of the Cornhuskers wins was versus Div 1-AA Maine. Where did i go wrong? Or are the TV guys wrong?

Interesting. I hope you're right. All things being equal I like to bet on a team with one last chance to get into a bowl.

But when Rutgers won their 6th game (including one vs Div 1-AA Villanova) I heard (i think on SportsCenter) and read in a Jersey newspaper that the Scarlet Knights were bowl eligible. Lot of ignorance out there.

As I understand the rule, you are able to count a 1AA opponent only once every few years, towards bowl eligibility.

I believe this rule has changed over the years but can now count one per season.

Yep,

"Per NCAA rules, you can count a win over a 1-AA opponent toward becoming bowl eligible once every four years."

My mistake, that rule was changed earlier in the year:

Expect to see a Division I-AA opponent on the Kansas football schedule for the next couple of seasons.

The NCAA approved a rule last week that will allow Division I-A teams to count one victory against a I-AA school each season for bowl consideration.

The NCAA also chose to lengthen the regular season by one game, to 12, beginning in 2006.

The game will take place during what is now bye week.

This is good news for the Kansas football team, as it will face Division I-AA Appalachian State this fall.

Great performance today by the beloved Cornhuskers. Taking that classless program behind the woodshed is a lot of fun. Didn't need it to go bowling but now a much sunnier bowl game it would appear.

Shit. I bet Nebraska only because I thought they had to win today to be bowl eligible (and that I was taking a ton of pts).

Now, I'll have to give the freakin' money back to the book.
