USF Hits The Road For Crucial Battle At UConn
Game Notes The University of South Florida football team (6-3, 4-1 BIG EAST) looks to extend its three-game winning streak to a season-high four games this weekend in a crucial BIG EAST match up against Connecticut Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ... The game can be seen live on ABC as part of the network’s regional coverage and can be seen locally in the Tampa Bay area on ABC 28 WFTS-TV ... Dr. Jerry Punch will handle the play-by-play while Terry Bowden will be the color analyst ... A win would mark the longest winning streak since the Bulls won seven-consecutive games to end the 2002 season ... After playing three of its first four games at home, this week’s game is the fifth road game that USF has played in its last six outings ... Saturday’s game was supposed to be the final regular season game for USF, however, Hurricane Wilma forced the Bulls’ Oct. 22 contest with West Virginia to be postponed to Dec. 3, in essence creating the unexpected four-game road stretch in the middle of the year ... USF is coming off one of the significant milestone games in the program’s history ... The Bulls became Bowl eligible for the third time ever in the program’s short nine-year history ... They also did it in 2001 (as an independent) and 2002 ... They were not chosen either year ... USF defeated Cincinnati, 31-16, giving USF its sixth win of the season ... The victory assured the Bulls their seventh winning season in nine years of football ... Andre Hall started out slow, posting just 23 yards on 15 carries in the first half against the Bearcats, however finished the game with 100 yards on 29 carries and one touchdown ... Hall continues to lead the Bulls in both rushing and receiving, averaging 120.9 yards per game on the ground and 28.6 per outing through the air ... UConn enters this weekend’s game following a much needed bye week ... The Huskies come into the contest having lost four straight after starting the season with a 4-1 record ... UConn is 4-1 at home overall, but 1-1 at home in BIG EAST play.
