CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

PLANO, Texas -- Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop, Plano police said

Irvin, an ESPN analyst and semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for speeding in Irving after being pulled over Friday afternoon for speeding in Plano, the Plano Police Department said. Police spokesman Mike Johnson said he didn't know what kind of paraphernalia was found.

Irvin paid a fine on the speeding ticket and posted bond on the drug paraphernalia possession charge. He was released about an hour after he was pulled over.

"We are reviewing the facts of the situation and have no comment at this time," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said.

Irvin, a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys, retired in July 2000.

In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges.

Irvin holds Cowboys records for catches (750), receiving yards (11,904) and 100-yard games (47), including a team-record seven in a row in 1991.

I doubt he'll make that afternoon appearance on Dan Patrick's radio show that has become a Monday staple.

Michael Irvin

What did Michael Irvin get picked up for? I just heard the end of Chris Burman's story.

Another reason for Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and all the other black leaders to poke their heads out.

He can clean up and maybe go on Oprah's and tell his side of the story.

Americans make such a big deal about pot. If he'd had a history of alcoholism, would his career be in the same kind of jeopardy? So the guy has a pipe? Big deal. Rush Limbaugh had a far more dangerous addiction and he still has a job.

I've never been around crack or a crack pipe, but I'm inclined to think that a pipe used for one could be used for the other, too. So unless there were traces of crack in the pipe, isn't it just speculation that it was used for anything less than a rather harmless drug?

Based on Michael Irvin's history and personality, I'd set the odds at:

Crack +100
PCP +300
Weed +500

i could care less what he does on his own time but with his past history you have to think its a coke pipe, not that it matters.

Hey KU, how was Paradise? P.S. I think Michael should get a raise at ESPN and he should give whatever he is smoking to Mike and Mike in the morning - they are BORING as hell.
