Motown is moving on ... finally.

Sources have told FOXSports.com that after much speculation and deliberation, the Lions have fired head coach Steve Mariucci.

The same sources said they believe defensive coordinator Dick Jauron would be the team's interim head coach, but that has not yet been confirmed.

It was widely reported on Friday that Mariucci's days in Detroit were numbered, but he managed to last the weekend.

The last straw for Lions management apparently was Detroit's embarrassing 27-7 loss to Atlanta on Thanksgiving Day. Playing before a national television audience, the Falcons took a 27-0 lead into the fourth quarter and were able to sit starting quarterback Michael Vick.

This was supposed to be the season Mariucci got the Lions back on track. Quarterback Joey Harrington was entering his fourth season in the league and the team was loaded with talent at the skill positions.

But after sharing the NFC North lead at 3-3, the Lions have dropped four of their last five games to fall out of the postseason hunt for the sixth straight season.

In his two-plus years in Detroit, Mariucci had a 15-28 record — a far cry from the 60-43 mark he had during six seasons in San Francisco. Mariucci has two more seasons left on a five-year, $25-million contract signed when he was hired in 2003.

I thought Sherman Lewis was still their Offensive Coordinator, but I guess it's some loser named Ted Tollner.

Lions offense is clueless, and it ain't Mooch's fault alone.

If anyone needs the axe... It's the O Coordinator.

GREEN BAY---GREEN BAY,

FIRE SHERMANN............HIRE Steve!!

Then play for the worst record(get Reggie Bush), sign Terrell Owens, and convince Brett into another year!

Just like that, GB would be the favorite to win the SUPERBOWL next year!!

I am a Long time Packs fan and no way in hell they waste #1 overall on Bush .. lets get real as they have a lot more pressing issues than a rb

Owens aint gonna end in GB and you know that ... please, GB has enough
problems without adding that psycho

They need to get Ron Wolfe out of retirement

A more important question would be "how does this affect their remaining games?". Will they go down the toilet or will they rally behind their new coach?

A couple of thoughts. First of all, Ted Tollner formally coached at U.S.C. and did s**t. Second, a good thought, Fish, although I do agree with Doc, the Packers problems are more extensive than firing Sherman, drafting Bush and signing T.O. But it would add some much needed excitement in Green Bay.
Remember, T.O.'s latest fiasco, began by saying Philly would be undefeated with Favre.

Houston will get the 1st pick and trade it. Green Bay won't get it because one of these days Favre will throw only 2 interceptions and the Packers will win a game to end up at 3-13 while Houston will be 2-14 at best.

First thing they have to do is find that interim coach and Dick Jauron has initially turned them down as reported on the radio. Press conference is supposedly set for 4pm. We will see.

at least someone is telling the truth out there

Speaking with emotion on the NFL Network, Lions Pro Bowl cornerback Dry Bly said most of Detroit's problems stem from one person - the team's quarterback.
"They should have fired guys on this team a long time ago... I feel like there is one guy in particular who I felt like is the cause of this whole thing. That's just how it is," Pressed further on who that one person is, Bly said, "It's not hard to figure out. The quarterback here has been bad. He hasn't gotten the job done since I got here. Y'all just see Sundays, but I've been a part of this every day for three years... practices. You see how the guys practice and the practices have been bad... I really don't believe coach would have gotten fired if Jeff (Garcia) didn't get hurt."

Dick Jauron is the interim coach. They must have worked out their differences.
