Recently received E-mail from mail@fbi.gov regarding websites I have visited. Wondering if anyone else received similar e-mail? Asked me to contact them at actual FBI phone number.

They're all scams.

You were also invited to click on a link that downloads viruses/trojans whatever.

scams are correct

this one is a little bit well thought out.

they give you the number to make is seem legit, and you are supposed to want to learn more by clicking links or downloading the file in the email usually a trojan fed .zip

Check the advanced header to see where the email really came from.

I really hated the Klez virus. Christ it was so wierd getting emails all the time that said stuff like "Here is a program to enjoy. I hope you would like it."

Always full of grammitcal errors and just really weird.

This virus (actually a couple variants last week) got a big jump on the Antivirus vendors. People are getting hundreds of these.

Do NOT open the zip file attachment that is coming with them.....if you do, then you'll be sending the virus to everyone that you have an email to or from, or is in your address book (that is how it spreads).

I get those also. Let's face it. The days of everything being friendly E-snail mails are completely over.

Mail from your sister sue, then sale at best buy, then netflix we've just shipped a cool new movie. That doesnt happen without at least 15 spams and viruses inbetween and there isnt much you can do about it. At least not for long time mail box holders such as myself. I have had my addy since 1999 or 2000.

Yeah, that's a variant of sorts---and it is the virus. SMTP is an email transport mechanism.

slammoe - I would think that if the FBI thought you were up to no-good, they would come directly to your house, apt., etc. They would not write you an email and give you a telephone number. This would only give you a chance to run, not that you would go far. Just my opinion. Thanks.

YOU HAVE THE VIRUS.....that is the emails it is sending from your computer that are bouncing and being returned to you......GO TO AN ONLINE ANTI-VIRUS SITE AT ONCE! several in fact..

also get the free version of zone alarm....it will quarantine these email attachments before they are ever downloaded to your computer

Whoa that sounds serious PPP. Do these antispyware and firewalls keep ahead of this crap?

Mr. Leisure--what kind of anti-spyware/virus protection do you have now that did not catch this?

The way I understand it, the virus gets on a machine, and then collects all the email addresses from emails, address books, and a few other files. It then uses it's own "email engine" to send itself out to everyone in those lists--usually being "spoofed"-meaning that inserts your email address in the "From" field.

I'm pretty sure this is the case here.
