To change his/her ways & become a 'Succesful' gambler over time....

I have a certain someone in mind when I post this question, this person for the past 17 years has done nothing but BLOW all their money on gambling & has never learnt from their past mistakes or changed their ways...

is it possible for them to change? or is gambling a sick disease & is abstinence the only cure fo rhtis person...

Is it possible? Absolutely.

It takes almost everybody a few years to learn money management, how to find value, etc.

But 17 years, who knows. At that point, probably won't change.

Every pro bettor you talk to you will tell you the time they lost their bankroll. Had losing year after losing year before figuring it out.

Since the favs are covering well above 50% this year in the NFL, you are going to see perennial losers all of a sudden having a winning season. Hell, if you're losing this year in the NFL, then there is no hope for you.

3 factors...

Booze

Boredom

Depression

If they are still fighting these three things, there bankroll will go down.

I would say absolutely not............

its the same story with an alcoholic...........a true alcoholic will never be able to have a couple of drinks and go home

there is the inner voice that tells you that you want more (well the inner voice and your body too).......................

All you need to do is get the degenerate to sign up at THERX because no one loses over here.

After 17 years of blowing money. Hell no. We all are trying to improve our skills, most of us anyway. If we aren't then we're screwed to begin with and weren't the type to succeed at this.

BUT, if after 17 years this person has not shown any improvement, then no. We all have lost a wad with bad behavior. Everybody. BUT, it's the ones that go, "What can I do better and how can I improve?" that can make it.

17 years? Forgedabowdit! tulsa

Something like this falls into the realm of being possible but not probable. With somewhere near 3% of sports gamblers being successful over time, it is highly improbable that this particular individual given your description is capable of finding his/her way to being in that 3%.

Most people don't even gamble for the money, at least that is what I have read about the compusive gambler type.

I tend to agree with all the replies in this thread. No. It is very unlikely the degenerate gambler will change.

17 years is the problem here....But I don't give up on people. He is capable of change if he really wants to.

SportsSavant, you're a bright fellow. From reading your posts over time I can surmise that.

You already know the answer and if you don't know the answer then I worry the friend may be you. I'm guessing he's not and you are posting an interesting question to the board.....but you already know, the fellow will not get better at this stage. tulsa

Blown all their money gambling for 17 years. Blown, all and 17 years are the keys.

That person has an addiction and will not change without intervention, psychotherapy and abstinence.
