I think that World's Ugliest Dog who died recently had major exposure to Chernobyl, so I guess it was good for something

I think it needs to get through a generation or two to theoreticly be possible. As in Xmen these mutations are allways a hinder to the individual until it is understood. If this is possible.. we will find out in 20 -30 years.

It would be cool to find something good out of something as terrible as that.

why would there be no Punctuated Evolution in this Traumatic scenario???? why all Tumors,,, all Cancer,,, all retardation,,,, body deformities,,,

why no perfection? increased Brain function,,, Telekenesys,,, HIgher IQ's???

Why? Because radiation is bad!!

Same reason crack heads don't have wonderful things happening to them. :coke:

Sure, it could happen, and probably will, but what you have to realize is that genetic mutation due to radiation is a nearly random phenomenon. Just like genetic mutation due to evolution is a series of random mutations over the course of billions of billions of trials, if you had billions and billions of genetic mutations following exposure to radioactivity, you may find people with super human powers

But because, say only a few thousand or a few hundred thousand genetic mutations caused by exposure to radiation have occured, the odds are stacked against it as of now

Get yourself a million or 100 million more spills of radioactive material and the ensuing exposure to radiation and genetic mutation, maybe 1 person will indeed develop superpowers

Just hasn't happened yet...unlike eye color, etc which requires the manipulation of 1 or 5 or 10 genes, in order to give someone super powers you'd theoretically have to change most of their basic genetic structure, which involves hundreds of thousands of mutations, all in a way just such that it results in X ray vision or whatever

Analogous to the saying...an infinite number of monkeys bashing on an infinite number of typewriters will eventually bash out every work of Shakespeare, in order, if given infinite time to do so...

Thanks to the Internet, we now know that isn't true.

Magic Johnson and Isaih Thomas were real.

Larry Bird was DEFINATELY genetically changed.

We all know white guys can't normally be studs in the NBA!!

Larry Bird without radiation enhancement = Luc Longley in a smaller man's body.

i beg to differ

of course this is accurate...even an event whose probability is infinitely close to ZERO (as the probability of monkeys typing out the entire works of Shakespeare certainly is) reaches 100% if given an infinite number of trials

please tell me how this logic is incorrect...

perhaps even more mind-boggling is that, in fact, my original statement is redundant. An INFINITE number of monkeys, bashing at typewriters, would type out the entire works of Shakespeare instantly, as soon as they started. Wrap your head around that one :howdy:

http://user.tninet.se/~ecf599g/aardasnails/java/Monkey/webpages/index.html#results

check that website out...you can see the results for your own eyes! certainly no entire work of shakespeare has been created by this program, but up to 30 letters of Shakespeare have been written, out of a RANDOM sequence, several times in the say, few years that this program has been running

now imagine running it for the rest of eternity...surely eventually you would get the entire text of Henry IV, or the entire library of Shakespeare, or an exact replica of every word ever written by every human being, ever

:)

Of course your simulation is correct. My comment was a joke meant as a commentary of all the lame-brained people we have met in cyberspace.
