I'm not sure if a projection is the way to go right now. Have you looked at the LCDs?

Ironically, I have a Panasonic 47" rear projection wide screen that I bought off the internet. Saved me about $800.

twocard, in my opinion i would definately go with the lcd dlp type bigscreen,......i had a regular toshiba bigscreen,...had it for years,...it was a workhorse,no complaints with it but,........especially with all the sports on tv,...heck that tv didnt get shut off for days at a time,....the downfall is,....they weigh a TON,...and when they go,...they generally cost more to fix than they are worth,.....with the newer style lcd big screens,...they are lighter,...thinner(the one i have now is 17") deep, it sits on its custom stand,...very modern looking,...and on top of that,...they use a light that is easily replaceble by the consumer,.......meaning,....mine has a warning indicator light that will let me know it is time to replace a bulb unit,...and the tv will be back up and running normal.,........the picture is SOOOO MUCH BETTOR on this hitachi ultravision,.....i would never go back to the heavy oversized regular bigscreen,.........not much experience in the plasma tv's, they may be another option though,...................i got my tv through a company i have baught electronics/satellite equipment through(otherwise i might not have gone that route,..and had to get it freight shipped to my house,.........i used a company called: bax global,...they were awesome,...and only 187 buck from miami to michigan air shipped,....well good luck in whatever you decide,...definately think you will love a new big screen lcd tv in high def!!!:103631605

Samsung 56" DLP HDTV (HL-R5667W).
53"x38"x16" - 81#

If anyone has purchased from an online dealer - How did you handle the warramty ? The nearest Samsung dealer is further than 120 miles. One online store says ship it back (you pay shipping).

I have a 60" Sony LCD HD TV and its great. LCD is definately a better option. But I will warn you, make sure your room is big enough to accomodate the size of the tv. If you are not far enough away from the tv, the picture isnt as clear. I love the LCD and HD portion, but I wish I got the 50" instead. Bought mine at Circuit City and they delivered, this time of year, you should be able to get a great deal. I saved a bunch of money by buying the floor model which came with all the warranties.

Back in May I finished my basement and bought a 56"DLP Samsung (HLP5085W). The HD broadcasts are absolutely wonderful. Non HD are so-so. I bought mine at Circuit City for about $3400. I could have saved about $600 buying it on line. A friend of mine had a bad experience when he bought one over the internet so I decided to pay more , knowing if I had any problems Circuit City was 10 minutes from my house. You probably won't have any problems if you buy it over the internet. For me I felt more comfortable paying the extra money and knowing I could walk into CC if a problem would arise. Do NOT buy a projection HD TV. I also have one of those and there is no comparison to that one and my DLP. Good Luck and enjoy.

One question
Why the Hell does ABC not broadcast their games each week in HD? They finally did today for the conference championship games. Don't you think they could afford to spend some money and but more HD cameras?

I paid $1500 for my 46" projection about 4 years ago. Now you can get that same TV for about $900. It seemed nice back then but technology always improves.

Bought a 50" DLP about a year ago. Love it. From what I have read, DLP and LCD is very similar although DLP seems to get a slight edge. Mine is panasonic. The Samsung models have a good rep, but I prefer the look of the panasonic. Samsung has the speaker directly underneath the screen which I don't like.

I'll see if I can find my receipt at some point, but I don't recall the trucking company.

shipping was expensive, I think it was like $350 but my savings took that into account...the guy brought it in and made sure we opened and inspected it before I signed the form...everything was/is in good shape
