Honestly, the 72 Dolphins weren't one of the THREE best teams in the history of the NFL. Look who the Dolphins played that season....their opponents winning percentage in the regular season was lik 37% or something ridiculous. I love old school ball just as much as anyone and have a lot of respect for the greats, but that Dolphin team is not as good as this Colt team

During the Dolphins 14-0 season, they beat 2 teams with a winning record. Thats right, 2! What a cakewalk.

Colts play 2 more games, increasing their risk. At the end of the season, Seattle, SD, Jacksonville (x2), Pitt, Cinci, NE all teame with winning records. Right there is 7 games. Rams make a late season push and there is another team.

I don't know why everyone is up in arms over the Colts schedule...its not that easy...and Miaimi certainly had an easier schedule.

As of right now you would have to still say Miami was a better team, they won every game...of course keeping it in perspective for each era.

72 Dolphins were not one of the top 5 greatest teams IMO

#1 mid 70s (74-75-76) Steelers team
#2 Joe Montana 49ers
#3 85 Bears
#4 Early to 90's Dallas teams
#5 Later 70's Steelers

Where do the great PACKER teams of years past rate with you?

You could argue that the best of the mid-70's Steeler teams was in 1976, the year they didn't make it to the Super Bowl. That was the year they started out 1-4 and Bradshaw was hurt for most of the season. They won their last nine games and the defense posted five shutouts during that time. Another trip to the Super Bowl that year ended in the AFC Championship game when, playing without Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier they lost to the Raiders.

:103631605 perhaps the best team of the bunch for the Steelers...28 points allowed the final 9 games.

But the true test for the 72 Dolphins even though they went undefeated they had to go and play at Pittsburgh in the AFC championship game that season since the NFL rotated championship game sites back then.

Colts wont have to go on the road in playoffs and SB is at fordfield

The real guage will be the post season especially the Super Bowl. Let the Colts win the big one and then resume this discussion.

Big test for the Colts will be on December 18th when the underated Chargers come to town.

Agree wish the game was in San Diego be a truer test or lets see them go play the AFC championship at Denver like the fish had to go to Pitt in 72

1962 Packers

What a team: Vince Lombardi, Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Max McGee and Boyd Dowler, a great offensive line, the power sweep, and a defense that held opponents to less than 11 points per game.
The preseason foreshadowed what would come -- the Pack got through the six-game exhibition schedule without a loss. Then they got going for real, winning their first four regular season games by the lopsided combined total of 109-14. The Packers added six more wins before losing their 11th game to the Lions. That's 16 straight. In their Nov. 11 contest against Philly, they racked up 628 yards on offense, while holding the Eagles to only 54. That's humiliation.

In the NFL championship game against the Giants, linebacker Ray Nitschke almost single-handedly shut down Y.A. Tittle's offense, and Green Bay triumphed 16-7.

Please, someone talk to me about the Ice Bowl. That shouldnt have even counted.

I know it's a piece of sports history blah blah. Football is not meant to be played on a skating rink.

Remember also, many players on the 1962 Packer team were also members of the first two winning Superbowl teams a few years later..............including, but not limited to their HOF QB BART STARR.

Same with the Baltimore Colts, winning NFL title's, before the two early Super Bowl appearances.

Unfortunately most of the elite teams are generally thought of after the merger and the start of the Super Bowl.
