Mets get Lo Duca from Marlins
DALLAS - The Mets have found their catcher, acquiring the Marlins' Paul Lo Duca for Class A right-hander Gabriel Hernandez and at least one other minor leaguer, FOXsports.com has learned.
Lo Duca, owed $12.5 million over the next two seasons, will be less expensive to the Mets than the two free-agent catchers to whom the team had made offers, Ramon Hernandez and Bengie Molina.
The Diamondbacks, who had interest in Lo Duca, could end up signing Hernandez or Molina, but likely won't want to pay market value. Few other teams have an obvious need at catcher, though the Phillies, Yankees and several other clubs might bid for Hernandez and/or Molina if they trade their present catchers. It also is possible that the Angels could re-sign Molina.
Gabriel Hernandez, 19, was 6-1 with a 2.43 ERA for Class A Hagerstown last season and 2-5 with a 5.74 ERA for Class A St. Lucie.
