Mets get Lo Duca from Marlins

DALLAS - The Mets have found their catcher, acquiring the Marlins' Paul Lo Duca for Class A right-hander Gabriel Hernandez and at least one other minor leaguer, FOXsports.com has learned.

Lo Duca, owed $12.5 million over the next two seasons, will be less expensive to the Mets than the two free-agent catchers to whom the team had made offers, Ramon Hernandez and Bengie Molina.

The Diamondbacks, who had interest in Lo Duca, could end up signing Hernandez or Molina, but likely won't want to pay market value. Few other teams have an obvious need at catcher, though the Phillies, Yankees and several other clubs might bid for Hernandez and/or Molina if they trade their present catchers. It also is possible that the Angels could re-sign Molina.

Gabriel Hernandez, 19, was 6-1 with a 2.43 ERA for Class A Hagerstown last season and 2-5 with a 5.74 ERA for Class A St. Lucie.

I thought you'd like the deal Tony? LoDuca's a Brooklyn born paisano

I'm not too crazy about Minaya dealing away the farm system for old vets, but we'll see. It looks like their trying to be competitive this year in order to sell their new network

I do like the deal. He's consistant.

It's funny. Piazza come here from the Dodgers through Florida and so did LoDuca.

I would love to see the Mets trade Beltran for Manny and bring up that kid Lasting Millidge and stick him in center. He's the real deal everyone says. But you know Minaya won't give up Beltran.

I wouldn't mind dealing Beltran either, but who's gonna take that contract? Same thing goes with Kaz Matsui, would love to deal him, but the guy's making big $$$

Milledge is supposed to be a stud, just hope Minaya doesn't deal him for some middle aged reliever or some other Steve Phillips type trade.

I don't think his contract is that big a problem. Boston needs him and if we take Manny it's a wash. I'm sure the Yanks would love a shot at him.

If they keep Beltran, Milledge is getting traded. No point in keeping him.
