I have used a local for a very, very long time. I live in Chicago but my guy is in California. He told me today that this is the worst football season that he has ever had and that some of his bookie friends are not going to be able to make it to the end of the season. Guys be very careful with your money this time of year. Don'e keep too much money in any one account and make sure that you are using A quility books. I have been in this industry a long time and was one of the guys who got butchered by the Aces fiasco and since have not used offshore.

I mean no disrespect to some of the advertisers on this site but I for one would not be comfortable using some of them.

These sites are great for information but they are not watchdogs -- they are informative and should be treated as such.

Good luck with your picks.

Very sound advice.

I would also recommend players start lowering their balances steadily before the season ends. The books are going to be hit with mass withdrawals when the season ends and I would feel a lot better getting a portion of my money out before then just to feel safe.

The elite shops will be fine...but even the "solid" group of books are taking an absolute beating.

if you think some of the advertisers on this site are "at-risk" books you have an obligation to this forum to provide this information (in my opinion at least)

which books are you talking about? you could really help a lot of people out, a lot of people who would gladly provide you imortant information like this if it were the other way around and they had info on an "at-risk" book that you were using...

i hope you can clarify your first post on this topic and start naming names...thanks!

That generic saying gets old with me - I have 30 dimes offshore - I could not afford to lose 1 dollar to a scumbag thief - I was lucky not to get burned by Aces or anyone for that matter - like you, once I get burned I would pull my money from every book including Pinnacle and Olympic.

I can tell you that if you have money in a "new' sportsbook, your money may not be safe. I said it when BetPanam was an advertiser here and they went belly up within a few months.

No one listened then. Maybe one of you will listen this time.

I had a telltale sign with PanAm which occured during the BCS bowls that year. I withdrew my balance and did warn people here. I'm sure some listened and some didn't.

Let's be vigilant and report strange happenings.

this is sound advice from the person who posted this..

i have had 2 bookies, one for almost 20yrs and the other for 10... they both are having terrible seasons...

they will probably get it back in hoops.... the ala/tenn game and the ala/lsu game killed them, to name just 2... along with the favorites in the nfl this year..

Christian,

As I said I no longer use offshore based bookies. I have a "network" of locals here in the states so I have been able to avoid the risk but they all have online sites so I'm able to easily shop numbers.

I have no firsthand knowledge of any risk with the shops who advertise here. I only know what my bookies are telling me. If is is happeneing to the locals you can be damn sure that it is happeneing to the offshore outfits.

There are a few books here who I have never heard of. In my opinion that would be bothersome at this point of the year knowing the type of season these guys have had.

Guys. My take is I guarntee the squares are doubling up and all its going to take is a couple good weeks and the books rake it in once again.

and another thing, how can you compare an offshore book to a local bookie:lolBIG: . does the local bookie have a online casino and poker room? Does the local cater to sharps? locals mostly cater to squares, so i can see how they are taking a beating. The homer's in bars are always on the chalk, and I mean always. dont forget, the online casinos, and poker rooms some of the sportsbooks have, and their sharp action that has been getting their ass handed to them.

Grant it, the books arent have record profits, but i think they are still profitable. If they arent kicking everyones ass then someone is crying wolf. Dont get me wrong, during the playoffs i will start decreasing my amount offshore, like every year, but come MLB, i will be loading up again.

I've been raking it in on the favs for a couple of weeks now but I plan on pulling back. So I don't see how you can say "the squares are doubling up".:toast:

The undelying impression I get is that everyone feels local bookies are safe and some offshores are not.

Given that it has been a bad nfl season for bookies, why are local bookies safe? Surely they have been hit as much as the offshores by a higher than expected % of favs covering the spread?

Two locals I know have their own poker games and in-house blackjack and horses and you don't need to go to Western Union or Netteller, CASH baby! Plus pretty girls will bring you sandwiches and booze,etc...And if you're short, your credit is good if they've known you long enough! CC

Have only one offshore account these days and its a credit shop with a settle figure.
Had 11 locals when the season started, 4 which would take up to 5k and the rest smallers all the way down to a nickle.
At this time 3 of the smaller places went under, but paid i hear, as i am NOT an NFL player, leanred long ago that its VERY tuff to out run that.
The rest i am not worried about as they have been around for ALL my life.
But its good idea to lower balances in 'most" offshore joints right before Christams as the "MASS" withdrawl always happens about that time of the year.

I noticed a lot of books are offering attractive sign up and re up bonuses the last couple of days. This could be a sign.
