"NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Rutgers students who want to cheer on the Scarlet Knights at the Insight Bowl are getting some financial help from the university. About 275 Rutgers students will be randomly selected to receive $300 stipends for travel expenses to the Dec. 27 football game in Phoenix.

"The game against Arizona State is Rutgers' second bowl appearance, and its first in 27 years. The travel money comes from more than $85,000 donated by alumni and others, including a $25,000 state donation authorized by acting Gov. Richard J. Codey.

"The idea of a state subsidy to help college students go to a football game prompted sharp criticism from a taxpayer watchdog group. Besides the stipends, free tickets are available for students through the Rutgers athletic department. The regular ticket price for the game is $52."

I guess that's a different alternative than being marched to the stadium every Saturday. (If you know what I mean.)

Average credit-card debt for college students has been reported to be as high as $2,700, with one student in 10 owing more than $7,000. Students often don't understand the long-term negative impact missed payments can have on their credit ratings until they seek a car loan and get rejected.

^^^I believe that these figures are low for today's college kid^^^

Credit card debt is at an all time high, period.

They learn it from their parents Viking :drink:

Kinda like that drug commercial "Where did you get this stuff? Who taught you how to do this?!" "I learned it from you dad!! I learned it by watching YOU."

Growing up in Charleston, I remember when Citadel students were allowed to tailgate before the game and many were drunk as they marched to the game. My knob year (infamous hazing incident with females), they no longer allowed the tailgating. Instead, they seemed it would be good time to implement SMI.

A normal college life must have been fun.

We had a couple of hours between SMI and the game that we could use to tailgate back in the mid to late 80's. Traffic detail was key, as there were always people tailgating that would provide food and drink (and you got paid.) Plus, if you could weasel a date or into the date section, you could get a comely young College of Charleston lass to sneak some booze in for you.

Either way, nowhere close to the real college experience. But I'm a better man for it.

:sad3:
