these two teams have been most active in off season trades and aquisitions, do either if them actually have a chance to go all the way next season?.....I believe there are still going to be more moves made by these 2 teams and its looking as though either or both tems have what it takes to at least compete in their respective leagues...

I think its very important for us bases bettors to be intune to the goings on of off season moves, both of these teams, at least on paper, have the ability to win at least 15 more games than they did last year, and that means $$$...

thoughts?

Nice to see the Blue Jays getting serious again...they have a good young team, now with the additions, they should be right in the thick of it, hopefully Halladay will be back, Chacin had a very solid rookie season, even Josh Towers was very decent...Alex Rios is a good looking young player....I like this team a lot....I think they need one more big bat though.

Nope. Look at how many years the Mets have made numerous high-profile offseason moves (Tom Glavine, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran to name just a few...) and they fail every year, year in and year out.

Mets need an ideology change; trying to become the NL Yankees isn't going to do it.

speaking for my Mets...no. Houston & the ChiSox made it last year soley through pitching & defense and I don't really see much change in that theory.

Mets rotation is still- Pedro, Glavine, Benson, Trachsel, J.Seo, V.Zambrano, A.Heilmann

lots of arms, but still not as good as the Braves in the East or better than a Carpenter, Mulder, Morris rotation in a short series.

same with the BJays - Halladay & Burnett can both be dominant when healthy, but both still are big ???

I like what the Phillies are doing....Hope they keep Abreu, with Utley, and now getting Rowand, and Howard is a masher!

Say what? You're really going out on a limb there. :icon_conf

I forgot they picked up Overbay last night....that is a very good pickup as their corner infield spots do not produce numbers they should!

I think the BlueJays overpaid for both Burnett and Ryan.

The market demanded these relievers be overpaid.....few decent arms with huge demand for help...must be nice being a fair to midland reliever this off season, these guys are making a fortune!!

Really hope the Phillies can somehow land Zito or Schmidt, or miraculously somehow get Willis... ....i saw Ryan Howard at a 76ers game last week and he recieved a standing ovation from the crowd for the rookie ofthe year award...this guy is going to be a stud here, as long as he can produce that is!!

I think Ryan Howard is going to see a significant dropoff in his numers next year.

You better believe that the coaching staffs of the Braves, Marlins and Gnats are pouring over film finding this guy's holes. I wouldn't be surprised if you see a big decline in his power numbers particularly at the beginning of the year.

We'll know whether he's got what it takes if he adjusts his swing around June and rebounds to his first-year numbers. If not, he's like 90% of rookies that break out in the majors one year...

I like him though, and even though I wish death on any philly's players as a Braves fan, I hope he succeeds in the end, just not in the NL East :dancefool

I dont understand why braves fans hate the Phillies...We donate at least 10-12 wins to you guys EVERY year....if I was a Braves fan, which i am not unless betting on them, i would love the Phillies!!!

I'm not from TN, I'm from Atlanta. I've only been here in Nashville for a few years and don't plan on staying much longer than a few more.

I see a dropoff in Howard's numbers just because it's almost inevitable. Especially given the extra time in the offseason, the coaching staffs of other teams will find his holes. Every player has them, and rookies generally have a lot and they're usually gaping.

The true test of whether a rookie has lasting power is whether he can adjust to compensate WHEN (not if) opposing pitchers know how to exploit the holes in his swing.

He has put up power numbers everywhere he's been...from college, to A, AA, AAA, now majors. I gave up one to him in college.
