Does Rickey Hendersons 4 year waiting period for the Hall of Fame begin the day after his last major league game? Or does it start after he verbally says he is retiring? Thanks

good question. has there ever been an 'active' HOF'er? Palmer tried. Wasn't Mr. 3000 in the Hall during his comeback?

This is a great question. If he does not officially retire does this not make him eligable for the hall?

5 years after his last major league game...basically its almost six years, by the time the induction ceremony takes place

After going into the HOF (1990) Palmer was in Orioles camp as a non-roster player in the spring of 1991, he had a shaky outing against the Red Sox, giving up five hits and two runs in two innings. Palmer, who retired in 1984, retired again the following day, after tearing a hamstring .

Ricky says that Ricky was the greatest so Kermit says that Ricky was the greatest also ! I can't ever remember anyone having such a affect on opposing teams as Ricky did during the World Series unless We want to consider Reggie Jackson and his 3 home runs !:toast:

If Henderson does not get every vote possible, those that do not vote should have that right rescinded, for utter ignorance.

A top 5 player of all time, easy.

Agree, and don't forget Henderson was one of the best fielding left fielders, no one cut the ball of down the line the way he did.

Top 5 player of all-time :103631605

I also can't forgot how Rickey left in the middle of an important game for the Mets to play Cards in the clubhouse. Top 5?? Really?? you'd rather have Rickey then.....

Babe Ruth
Barry Bonds
Ty Cobb
Hank Aaron
Stan Musial
Willie Mays

Maybe top 10 if we are being nice but in no way shapre or form is Rickey Henderson is a top 5 player all time. Sure fire hall of famer however on the first ballot not a top 5 player.

I'd take Henderson over Musial or Bonds. This is a never ending discussion. I mean Bonds is fantastic, but Henderson in any era would dominate at the plate, in the field & on the basepaths.

In any order:
Cobb, Henderson, Mays, Ruth, Aaron.

Man you Don't even have Ted Williams, Joe D, Mantle, Frank Robinson.

I think Ricky is in the 2nd ten. But interesting because I've often said I wouldn't put Pete Rose in the top 100, and People find that Nuts. Henderson was MUCH better than Rose.

He dominated in the field? You are underrating Power in my opinion. Henderson was great, but POWER means more than the SB.

Ricky gets 2nd ten because he was the best at what he did. But he can't be put with these guys that Hit so many more bombs and Most have a lot better average too. Just way better Hitters than Ricky.

I was only listing plays off the top of my head to make a point. When the greatest players of all time came up this is the first time I have ever heard Ricky Henderson's name throw into the mix which dumbfounded me. Since he isn't a top five player. Hell you could make a case he wasn't the best player on the teams he played for during his run.
