This guy is going to turn to dust soon.

I guess all you have to do is have the one prerequisite and you're on the team. :eyebrows:

Franco closes in on two-year deal with Mets

Free-agent first baseman Julio Franco, who turned 47 in August, is close to signing a two-year contract with the Mets, FOXsports.com has learned.

The Mets are giving Franco a two-year deal to lure him from the division rival Braves, for whom Franco has played since 2001.

Franco is expected to back up Carlos Delgado at first base and serve as a pinch-hitter off the bench. His deal also could include a position with the club when his playing career is over.

Franco has a past relationship with Mets general manager Omar Minaya and special assistant Sandy Johnson, both of whom were with Texas when Franco played for the Rangers from 1989 to '93.

Franco batted .275 for the Braves last season with nine home runs in 233 at-bats. He has played 21 years in the majors, and also has made stops in Japan, Mexico and Korea.

Two years, you mean he can't find a longer deal?...Why doesn't he atleast go to an A.L. team where he could spot DH?

9 homers in 223 AB's nothing to sneeze at, and he can still pinch hit as good as anyone, very tough on relievers, with his eye and his ability to foul off 10 pitches, late in the game.

He got those arms from using a "walker" to get around in the offseason.

What is wrong with Julio Franco? A) He comes cheap since he isn't going to break the bank B) He had a pretty good season in ATL last year and understood his role. C) He can still hit off left handers so when he does spell Delgardo at first or as a pinch hitter he can help the team. Plus he will fit in well with that club house I don't see any other player out there that could fill that backup 1st/pinch hitter role better than him.

Because they're going to have to pay Franco more then Marlon Anderson got from the Nationals.

Last year, Anderson had identical numbers to Franco, plays 1st, 2nd and outfield and is 16 YEARS YOUNGER!!!! :lolBIG:
