Yet another Vegas Hotel question (March Madness)

Wife and I are thinking about coming to Vegas either Mar 16 (thurs) or Mar 23 (thurs) and leaving Mar 18 (sat) or March 25 (sat)....we got 130/RT flights from Denver on Frontier.

Hotels of course are super expensive those weekends...spring break, NCAA hoops, etc. We are looking for a nice strip hotel but don't need the 300/night room type thing. As long as its near the 4 corners area, wifey would be pleased.

I've done the Travelocity, Lodging.com, Hotels.com, Orbitz, etc...does anyone have any "inside scoop" or off-the-beaten path suggestions to find a somewhat cheaper room? Wife was even saying that you can go there w/o reservations and then just haggle with the hotels for rooms...but that seems a little risky given that the weekends we are going already have a lot happenings. TIA for any replies.

Try a non-casino hotel, there are fairfield and hampton inn types available for under 100 a night.

Motel 6 is usually under 100 and a few in its category are. The non-casino hotels such as Fairfield and others are well over 100/night during high season. Just accept it, you are going to pay up if you want to be here in what is about the busiest time of the year.

dont book through expedia or travelocity....they just charge you a fee. Go to the actual Hotel/Casinos web page and you can get a better deal

Vegas is not like a lot of other places for booking Hotels. As mentioned above, I believe you can almost always get a better deal by going directly to the Hotel. I live here in Vegas and my wife works in reservations for Circus, Circus. No I would never stay at the Circus, Circus ! It's for kids and off the regular beaten path. However I will tell you from many years of past experience that the first weekend of March Madness is by far the most exciting ! We got a great deal at the Imperial Palace by booking early and using our slot club card. Always show and use your card when doing any gambling to assure a good price on rooms next time in town. Bourbon street is close to the 4 corners and might offer you cheaper rooms and of course Super 8 is right behind Bally's on Koval by Ellis Isle and has cheaper rooms also. The rest of the Big Casinos on the strip are sky high for March madness unless you have lots of points on your slot cards ! GL and I hope to see you if you are going on the first week !

FYI Kermit, the Bourbon Street closed a couple of months ago. Harrahs bought it to tear down.

Also check for a cheap car rental, alamo was 36 dollars for 3 days the last time I went. Wife and I would have spent 24 dollars on shuttles to airport/hotel both ways tip. Then you can stay anywhere, lots of interesting stuff to see off strip.

Just checked there a car is <TABLE class=baseRate cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><CAPTION>Base Rate - Economy (USD) </CAPTION><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD>(2) Time & Distance ($20.90/Day)</TD><TD class=amount>$41.80</TD></TR><TR class=contrastColor><TD>Rate/Product Code BQER </TD><TD class=amount> </TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=2>Inclusive Rate Items</TD></TR><TR><TD>Guaranteed Base Rate</TD><TD class=amount>Included</TD></TR><TR class=contrastColor><TD>Unlimited Miles</TD><TD class=amount>Included</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE class=baseRate cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD class="specialInstructions center" colSpan=2>For information on coverage products, ex:Collision Damage Waiver(CDW) click here </TD></TR><TR><TD class="specialInstructions center" colSpan=2></TD></TR><TR><TD class=right>Subtotal</TD><TD class=amount>$41.80</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

plus tax. Considering cost of trans to Airport you may want to do this and stay ANYWHERE in the vegas area.

Try the Silverton. Not bad place and nothing special about it but you can do alot worse. I think 2 years ago they were still offeriing rooms in the 100 dollar area for that first weeked of MM. Just a short ride up Industrial Blvd. gets you to the heart of the strip in 5-10 minutes.

Go to craigslist.org
I was in Vegas around the same time last year and got a great deal at the Jockey Club, in a penthouse suite. It's adjacent to the Bellagio, great view and everything.

Around the same time and The same time is 2 entirely different things. The first week of March madness is simply the busiest time of the year in Vegas... no maybe's if's or but's ! There is also plenty of conventions coming in at this time and also It's St. Patty's day. If you can get a great price at the Jockey Club, I would highly recommend it as It's a very nice place in a very good location. However it would really surprise me if it's any kind of a real bargain on the opening weekend of March madness !

Super 8, a block behind Bally's.
Not a bad choice as I mentioned earlier. My Son stayed there a few years back and the location is walking distance to the 4 corners area !

I took a road trip with the guys about 5-6 years ago. We just set out of Dallas without any plans or lodging. We went to San Diego, Hollywood and Vegas. ........Stayed in the Super 8 each spot. Fun trip....alot of boozing and chasing skirts, .......but bringing them back to the Super 8 is kinda funny.
