i remember watching monday night football 25 years ago when cosell came on saying he had tragic news about john lennon being shot and a few minutes later he said that lennon was confirmed dead. not sure on this one but miami and buf stick in my mind as the game.

a lot of water under the bridge since then but sometime it seems like just a few years ago.

it was miami and new england and probably 1/2 of the country found out the news from howard.

i think abc was the first station to break the news.

Yep, heard it on the radio. One of the local stations basically had an all day tribute to him.

I remember it very well, and heard it on MNF when Howard told the world...I believe it was either the Saints and or the Rams playing in the game.

if you took the time to read a post by the most intelligent person here you would have seen where i told you who played in the game.

After the kicker on the pats hit a field goal to win the game towards the end, I remember him saying something to the effect of " and its good, patriots win, but what does it all mean, John Lennon was just shot dead"

Anyone else remember that?

i knew it was miami but not new england.

my friend who was staying with me was a huge gambler and a huge lennon fan and i remember he had a big play on the dolphins who had kind of let the game slip away. on a late drive new england through a bomb that was completed to set up the win but a penalty was called when my friend starts making the holding sign but turned out the call was against miami at that point he is totally pissed saying he has been screwed and completely forgetting about lennon his only concern was his losing bet. the funny thing was he was also a life long patriot fan who rarely bet against his team.

Gotta love Cosell. The story had just come across the wire and ABC wanted Michaels to break it after confirmation. Cosell just took it and broke the story himself.

Like yesterday. In college at off campus home in Matunuck Beach. Party of 15-20 people. Played a little football at halftime with a plastic football that served as smoking paraphanalia device. Having a great time with the chicks there and a keg and other stimulants. It was a mutha of a cold night. Came back in to watch 2nd half and Howard came on and delivered the news. You could here apin drop--no human sound for a what seemd like forever. I got up, turned down the TV and slapped on Abbey Road as a tribute. All of us were about 10 or so when Beatles broke up; so too young for the early to mid 60s hysteria yet old enough to know their greatness. I can't believe 25 years have passed this quick.
