OK, so I'm not the all-knowing one and wouldn't try to toot my own horn, but DAMN!!!!! I was at a family reunion tonight (60+ people) and I really couldn't believe some of the stuff these people (mostly people I don't know) were spewing about sports:
Person #1: "If Bush doesn't win the Heisman tonight, I will NEVER watch college football again."
(OK, so you're obviously not a big fan to begin with).
Person #1: "I watched ESPN the other night and they showed the Top 10 plays of the season, and Reggie Bush was on 9 of them. I think Matt LeinHEART was the other one."
(So, basically what you're saying is that Vince Young had NO BUSINESS at the Downtown Athletic Club).
Person #1: "Texas is going to KILL USC."
Person #2: "Yeah, right. How much you want to put on that?"
Person #1: "50 bucks!"
Person #2: "You're on!"
Me: "Wow, you're not even going to ask for any points?"
Person #1: "I don't need points, cuz they're going to get stomped."
Person #2 (who is in a good position at this point): "Yeah, maybe we should wait and see what the line is going to be."
Me: "USC is favored by roughly a touchdown."
Person #1: "So I could have gotten points, but I don't need them anyways, cuz they're going to lose BIG."
Person #1 (again): "College football is totally fixed. Did you ever notice that when USC is up by 30 at halftime, they always leave LeinHEART in just until they cover the spread, and then they take him out."
Me: "Well, I'm sure Pete Carroll gets a pretty decent salary, so it would probably take a lot of money to change his mind about what decisions to make. The only way would be if the players were getting paid off by someone."
Person #1: "I think they do. I have a friend who plays college basketball and he said the mob would take some players out to dinner and try to see how they were feeling that night and ask them what they thought about tonight's game. One time we watched the line for the game and the night before the game they were +400 and then right before the game they were -370. We calculated it out and figured out that in order to change the line that much, there would have to be about $3 million placed on my friend's team all in one day.
And my favorite of the night (I seriously had to stop myself from laughing):
Person #3: "This Bush kid is so good that they've been comparing him to that guy from the '85 Bears. Not Walter Payton, but the other guy."
Me: "Allright, well it's been real. I really should get going."
I know we all spew some crap on here sometimes, but man do I appreciate this website after hearing stuff like that!!
On that note, I hope you all have a good holiday season!!!
