The Boston Red Sox will certainly leave a plate at the table if Roger Clemens decides he wants to finish where he started.

The Red Sox, where Clemens played his first 13 seasons, have contacted Clemens' agents, the Hendricks brothers, to express their interest in the future Hall of Famer, The Boston Globe reported.

When told of the Sox interest, Clemens, who was not offered arbitration by the Houston Astros, was said to have reacted positively, according to the paper.

"We had an internal discussion," Sox CEO and president Larry Lucchino told the paper, "and concluded we should make an initial call to let the Hendricks brothers know we were open to discuss Roger's return if he should have interest in the Red Sox in 2006.

"Nothing further."

Clemens, if he chooses, can re-sign with the Astros after May 1.

He has children to provide for..........good for him.

I think his gazillion dollars he has already made will allow his kids to go to college. Might be better off spending time with them.

Screw Clemens. I do not want him back. Mediocre his last 4 years in Boston, then goes out and wins back to back Cy Young's for Toronto before committing an unforgivable sin...signing with the Yanks.

If i were him, I'd shoot for 400 wins...

Why retire? Is he retiring because 40 somethings are 'suppose to' or is his career on the decline? Obviously he's still 85-90% of as good as he once was...if not higher.

For all we know Roger may be thinking about 3-4 more years, and why not!?

i don't buy a lot of the idealistic shit people say about athletes, personally i think it's human to play for the team who offers you the most money. in fact, i think it's smart to play for the most money. i respect guys who get a massive salary and then donate to charity with a portion of it. i'll take clemens back with the sox any day of the week with that tiny ERA
