Oddsmakers have now issued pointspreads for the dozens of college football bowl games that dot the landscape. Meanwhile, USA Today computer guru Jeff Sagarin has posted his pre-bowl numbers, as well. Taking the Sagarin numbers as pure science - and the Las Vegas line as a bit more art - the situation begs for a comparison.

MEINEKE CAR CARE BOWL (Dec. 31)

South Florida (76.26) and NC State (76.19) have almost identical Sagarin ratings so, according to the scientist, the game should be pick 'em. Instead, you get South Florida plus 6 1/2. I'll take that for $110.

Am I the only one who thinks S. Fla can win straight up real easy?

Good point, and the line is obviously based more on public perception with State coming out of the ACC.

My good friend Marc Lawrence of Preferred Picks comes up with a terrific trend that supports fading NC State. It goes like this:
"Play against any pre- New Years Day college bowl favorite who won 8 or less games if their offense averages 121.5 or less rushing yards per game versus a foe whose offense averaged 140 or more rushing yards per game.
Play against So. Miss, S. Carolina, NC State"
This trend is ATS W-L record since 1980 15-1 (94%)

Love the bowls!

Yes, for now, South Florida appears on paper to be a good value bet.

A lot of other games are more appealing to this observer though. :103631605

WIL, I am huge on SoFlorida.

Add in the fact that over past six seasons, the Dog covers the spread in over 2/3 of NCState games.

If i remember correctly it said that Texas had slighty higher score than USC. So if this is correct one should have Texas +7?
