People always talk about getting screwed by online poker sites, but how much do you think the folks you're playing with are cheating? I'm talking about people on phones or IM with each other, people using computer programs, etc. Are we all suckers for trusting other players not to be doing that to us? Sometimes I worry about that.

oh course that happens...and can happen pretty easy.. you just have to protect your hand....that is also why I think Limit games are shit

go into the NL games and if you have a good hand bet it and protect it ...

The is a very old topic - collusion etc. All the big sites look out for it and is very easy to spot.

First, it is not necessarily easy at all to spot when people are on the phone or IMing each other, at least not if they're good at it. They don't have to be obviously chip dumping or anything like that. Second, when I've posted 748 times, Valueman, I'm sure I will think this subject is wicked boring too, but this is my first time doing this, so bear with me, shall you?

Of course it would be impossible to know if 2 people were on the phone or IMing each other. What the card sites look for is the same pair or group of IP addresses showing up at the same table on a frequent basis.

I have heard for years about collusion, bots, and other ways of cheating. Until someone gets caught or I am shown concrete proof of this, I do not believe it is true.

Interent Poker is a different game than live poker, and therefore needs to be played differently. There is a differnt strategy involved with online versus live. I agree there seems to be alot of river rats online, but to me, its because the players online are looser than in live games. I believe the main reason is because the players have nothing tangible in front of them. It is much different when you are sitting at a table and you have to reach for your chips vs just hitting a call or fold tab.

I know people who cheat online at the same tables. They were caught on though. The person in question was caught twice once at Poker Stars and another at Full Tilt Poker. There are plenty of people who try to cheat online. It does happen.

I was playing in a 100$ sit n go at PP the other night. I got down to the final 3 with 2 other guys who were trying to cheat me. I had about 3k in chips, the chip leader had about 6k and the 3rd place guy had about 9 hundred in chips. Well these 2 were trying to force me into 3rd. The big stack was protecting the little stack. 3 different times the big stack could have call the little stack (with me) for an all in to try to eiliminate him with just a little more than the big blind which he already posted.

I got 2nd but I was pissed.

Is there any way to report this sort of activity, it is all tracked , wouldn't it be obvious to investigate?

I get suspicious when I see two players from someplace like Butte Crack, Arkansas at the same table.

It is a tactical move to keep the short stack around. Odds are he wasn't cheating.

i have some friends who will only play in a 3 table sit and go to avoid the early collusion or so they think.

I tend to just play small games for fun not to make serious money. if 2 turkeys want to cheat me for $10.00 bucks what can i do. i look to see where there from and if there from college towns i am careful. i dont play ring games. just tournys.

Since the object of the tournament is to eliminate all of the other players,
will you explain this interesting and unique strategy of intentionally NOT eliminating a short stack who is also one of 2 remaining opponents.

I believe it is harder to find collusion at a brick-and-mortar casino than online. Three or four players could sit at the same table and lay their cards on the table depending upon several factors such as strenghth of hand. Only they would know their code of laying cards down. It would be quite hard for a casino to detect this.

I was thinking the same thing. The only thing I can think of would be the fact that you do not have to be in either the big or small blind every single hand.
