Its on espn.com Journey. Says should be done by end of the week. I am not a CU supporter but think this is a great hire if they make it. This should make Colorado a team to look at again. Well done.

Okay....Now what does this do to the bowl match-up in Boise?
Does this let the AIR out of the guys from Boise on that awful Blue carpet?

Colorado needs ALL the help they can muster. There is sooooooo much crap going on there to numerous to even start to mention.
Will this add to thier problems through the bowl?
Will the seniors of Colorado even show up?
The list goes on.

another coach using a small school for a stepping stone. im sorry im just sick of the greed everywhere in sports. if you can turn a team into a winner you can stay and turn it into a powerhouse for years to come........i know, but its easier to sign the multi million dollar contract at a "name" school just to be bought out in 2 or 3 years when things dont go as planned. what a country.:money8: .

Sorry for Boise State because he really put that program on the map.

Smart move by Colorado.

Any truth to the rumors that Gary Barnett will be coaching a Pop Warner team next year?

What's wrong with moving up in the world? Do you also think that high school coaches shouldn't move up to NCAA? NCAA coaches to the NFL?

It's called a promotion.....no different than any other line of work.

Believe it or not Barnett will be sought after from other schools. As you know its ALL about Winning & Money.
Barnett is a good coach but he was in a difficult spot, with ALL the crap that was an still is going around there. I think the players just "flat" quit on him towards the end of the season. The Nebraska game is what Killed him. IMHO

Somebody will definitely pick up Barnett. He'll turn around a program somewhere-as long as he's given a long lease.....real long.

Butch Davis (Miami U\Cleveland Browns) was the first choice-he turned down the offer.

I live in Boise and know Hawkins.

This is a horrible hire for Colorado.

His has offensive schemes to utilize the run to open up the pass.

That flies just fine in the crappy defensed WAC but won't work at all in the Big 12.

The Big 12 is probably the best run-stopping defensive conference out there. Hawkins offense struggles mightily when the run isn't established.

Colorado just screwed themselves on this hire but I'm glad that Hawkins got a major raise even though he made us Boise folks build him a COSTLY practice stadium that is just getting finished. Bastard.

Jake, I hope you're right.

You bring up some good points about the WAC-it's pretty tough to get a good read on a coach based upon their performance in that conference. It's an entirely different kind of football there (and defensive coordinators apparently make about as much as the university janitors).

I think Barnett is still a bit radioactive for maybe another year. After that he'll need to do the Mike Price program, Alabama blow-up and then a UTEP rehab stint. THEN, it's back to the big leagues...

I predict success for Hawkins in Colorado. Top Stud high schools players want to play lights-out offense and want to play where they'll be showcased. I think Hawkins will put a bolt of lightning to the CU program and they'll show it after 1 or 2 seasons under Hawkins.

I fully expect him to take a minor "demotion" of sorts, but there are a lot of AD's out there under a lot of pressure to put a successful football program on the field.

I'd be very surprised to not see him coaching somewhere by the time summer rolls around.
