the gender gap

With sportscasting salaries varying widely based on region and background, do factors such as gender also have an impact? The answer seems to be yes. Legendary female sportscaster Robin Roberts was the first black woman to work on-air at ESPN and the first female to host an NFL pregame show. But her 6-year deal, signed with ABC/ESPN in 1995, was only for $650,000 per year.

The gender gap is still visible as one moves down the celebrity scale. TNT football reporter Kevin Kiley earned around $300,000 in 1997. Even with inflation and a bigger network working in her favor, fellow football commentator Bonnie Bernstein took in less than $200,000 CBS in 1998.

In August of 2004, NFL sideline reporter Jill Arrington decided to leave CBS for ESPN. The reason for her departure was a salary dispute. But again, the numbers were not in the millions. She was reportedly looking for an increase from $110,000 per year to $200,000.

reasonable terms
While salaries for professional athletes may be spiraling out of control, the salaries for sports broadcasters seem to still be grounded in reality.

A salary of $5 million a year for an icon like John Madden to broadcast a sport that brings in billions of dollars in revenue is certainly justifiable. Just as $6,000 for Randy Bartz -- to provide a few weeks of commentary for a sport that only receives national attention once every four years -- also seems perfectly reasonable.
Question: How much was Hannah Storm offered to leave CNN and work as a sportscaster for NBC?
Answer:
Hannah Storm was reportedly offered an annual salary of $1.5 million in 1996 to join NBC Sports.

Probably the same as Wil - our ILLUSTRIOUS HEAD MODERATOR.

Someone willing to do the job for low pay and not smart enough to figure out that everyone is making fun of them.

how the hell do you expect someone here to know their exact qualifications..

call espn .

i guess because they look half way decent , they can speak , they have some sort of college degree ..

and i would take them over the likes of a former pro ballers like eric dickerson , o.j. simpson , frank gifford , dan dierdorf and a few others i'll think of..

What do you guys want, for them to bring back hundred year old Leslie Visser. I agree sideline reporters add nothing. Unfortunately the only woman who actually understands football is Andrea Kremer and she just does features on ESPN Sunday Countdown.

I would think someone could at least post some nude shoots of either one of these chicks so we can make a final determination

There has being several books by female sportswriter who have made their feeling known including informing us about some of the players genitals. Sports caster Jill Mitchell stated she enjoys watching the naked guys as they walk to and from the showers. She considered it part of a sport writers job. She even stated some of the African American players were so large she didn't know whether they were erect or flaccid. Others have stated comments like "Dexter Manley penis was so large it looked like a black hose hanging between his legs"

I dated a local sports reporter--the chick who read the scores on the local news on the weekends--and she knew very little about sports. In fact, I picked her up in a bar by starting a sports-related conversation with her after I recognized who she was and she spend the rest of the night defending herself because she had no idea who or what I was talking about. (It was the late 80's and I believe it was the day Ricky Henderson was traded to or from the Yankees for Luis Polonia and Eric Plunk. She had never heard of any of them, if I recall. I may have some of those details incorrect--it was a long time and many beers ago.)

Granted, this chick wasn't a highly paid sideline reporter, but most of these women get started in local markets. Bottom line, she knew little or nothing about sports at the time. She has sinced worked in several large markets and may still be on the air, so I imagine she has picked up something along the way.

Sideline reporters--including that Tony Siragusa guy--add little to the game, regardless of what they look like.
