High Standards
The HOF is supposed to be only for excellent players over a prolonged period of time. This eliminates just good ones & those that only excelled for a few years.
While trying to be as kind as possible: In that group, maybe one or two are deserving & maybe a total handful may eventually make it in due to other / extenuating circumstances: longetivity, overall contributions to the game(say role model, persevering for a poor team w/o going the free agency route, etc., etc.)
But we can't start diluting the quality of the present HOF with such a group though, as they all have glaring weaknesses as relates to excellence or dominance-- for an entrant to not dilute the quality of the HOF, he can't just have dominated in the game for 4/5 seasons-- needs to be more like a decade, even more so for those who only played 10-12 seasons--they'd better have not had too many supbar ones.
Usual lock entrants meet the following requirements:
1. In more than 4/5 of their total seaons played they will have:
A. either been an All-Star or award winner(gold glove, mvp, etc, etc.), or stat leader in any one major or even minor category whatsoever in a season-- or at least:
B. hit the the magic number in at least one major stat category or two or more non-major ones-- whether offensive or defensive for their position. Y'all know, whether 300 batting, 100 rbi, 20 wins, etc., etc.
Remember that there're a ton of minor/lesser stat categories(& some are not just totals but avg.), so that leaves plenty of wiggle room for an injury-shortened season-- even for a less than stellar one, and does not eliminate those that are non-dominators but still make up with all-round play.
2. In major categories hit two or more career magic stat numbers(avg or total).
However, in this group you have some that failed in #1. in fact, did so in less than half their seasons, and also failed at #2.
