Love his music but the guy is a total hypocrite. Keeps telling governments to donate cash... just get him and his billionare buddies, Bowie, McCartny, U2 etc, to donate cash, and you'll solve third world debt. Governments have enough poor to deal with in their own countries. Whole reason we have so many have nots, is because the "haves" (that's you Bono) have accumulated way too much wealth, more than they'll ever need. Just can't believe I guy who doesn't even pay taxes (Irish art/culture pays no taxes) keeps telling governments how to spend our cash! He should think twice about paying $1500 bucks to fly his lucky hat, first class to Africa of all places, while speaking out on poverty?!?!?!

That reminds me of some of these celebrities like Ariana Huffington who preach on about SUV's taking so much gas so they get a hybrid car. Nevermind the fact that their huge mansions are burning up more fuel than dozens of SUV's combined.

If people would just stop listening to these people maybe they would shut up.

Bono could not be more annoying if he tried. He should win Time's Most Full Of Himself Man of the year.

Not only that, he can't hold a note in a bucket. Have you ever heard him sing in an unplugged session? Also, if you listen to him in concert the sound equipment can't be "fixed up" to make his voice better like the studio equipment can.

I personally was a huge U2 fan up till Achung Baby but lost interest in them since. Hopefully he donates alot of his own cash but have no idea. As for Gates, give me a break. Hopefully his charitable foundations are not as worm ridden as his overrated operating system.

Me too. I give him credit for keeping himself in the public eye, that's why he doesn't count his money all day, he too busy posing for photos. He should put his money were his mouth is. Separate the so-called activist from the singer and you my see things more objectively. I still love there music (early 80's) but he's a big time hypocrite. Something to think about, U2 first political action was taking part in Live Aid. After live aid until the mid 1990's you didn't hear a thing from the band. Maybe they just didn't need the publicity, after all Joshua Tree (87) Rattle and hum (89) and Achtung Baby (91) were their top three selling albums. Could it be that once sales went down, promotion/publicity attempts go up. Might be just a coincidence, but it's funny how the band at the peak of their popularity had absolutely nothing to say on world hunger and debt! Like the guy for his music, but a spade is a spade, difficult taking someone serious who doesn't pay any taxes, telling government how to spend our money, while him and his bandmates worth over a billion give nothing!

how do you know what he gives ? are you his accountant ?

are you saying the guys time and efforts arent worth anything ?

as soon as you come up with some ideas on how to help the world and can get world leaders to listen , then you can be critical of someone else..

the guy was in his mid 20's back then.. he was a kid.. wisdom comes with age.

he doesnt know .. just thinks he does.

he waited to be really heard until he matured a little.. dont know too many mid 20's rock stars who would be taken seriously.

a guy in his early 40's who has been around the world 20 times would have a better view..

Perhaps the time I heard him he hadn't properly warmed up. Try listening to his recorded concerts some time. He can't even hit the notes. The studio people try to cover up the missed tones so try to listen carefully.

Are you saying we shouldn't criticize someone who we think is phony or hypocritical?

I have many live recordings, have seen them live several times. not many bands can pull it off live like U2

I saw him recently do a live accoustic set on the Conan O'Brien Show , with just him and the Edge playing guitar, it was spectacular, I was amazed at his voacals, nothing but him and the accoustic guitar, I wish you had seen that and then would like your opinion.

Also they do a lot of Bono only vocals (without any music) in concert, I have never heard such a thing...not just saying it , as a big U2 supporter

I'll have to pay special notice to him the next time I see them play.

Thanks JMan.
