Beltran would do great in fenway park. When he was with KC, I just said to myself this kid is the second coming.

He dropped off just a little with houston and then I dont even know what to say about his venture with the mets.

But even if he was the Carlos of old, I would still want manny. >.<

Neither would I.

Beltran consistant all season still isnt better than Manny good only half of the season.

But you have a guy complaining he doesn't want to play in Boston and what are your options in regards to trade?????? Nothing.

On top of it, who's playing center????

Beltran was a horrible bust for the Mets last season. The guy hit a whopping 16 HRS and drove in only 78 batting 3rd all year. The Redsox would laugh hard at such an offer without major sweetening and I mean another top line starting player.

Beltran, Heilman and Milledge.

:pucking:
good luck with that one. I wouldn't want Manny for Milledge straight up!!!

Tony, you know more than I do than Manny in Flushing is a recipe for disaster. That guy can mash, but picture him playing left or rightfield in Shea....he would make Todd Hundley look like a gold glover.

A healthy Beltran will bounce back this year with Delgado & Wright protecting him

And that belief was a "big factor" in contributing to Damon's decision to sign with the Yankees.
"I don't think he's going to be back," Damon told Ch. 2 yesterday. "He stated many times that he wants to be elsewhere."
Damon said the Mets would be a good fit for Ramirez, and the slugger appears amenable. But a relocation to Flushing continues to seem unlikely, even if GM Omar Minaya still craves the slugger.
The Mets are holding the line on payroll after another winter of spending, as evidenced by their pursuit of low-priced relievers while letting Roberto Hernandez walk and hesitating to bid over-aggressively on Julian Tavarez.
Also, Boston brass has maintained its desire to get equal value for Ramirez. The Mets would be hard-pressed to put together such a package, even if the money issue was resolved. It's doubtful the Red Sox would accept Lastings Milledge as the primary chip back because they already have to make up for the loss of Damon's bat. And Aaron Heilman isn't expendable because of the lack of proven relievers leading to Billy Wagner.
From a Mets perspective, obtaining Ramirez also could be dangerous down the road considering the organization's other financial obligations. The slugger is owed $57 million over the next three seasons. When 2008 arrives, the Mets will be in the final year of Pedro Martinez's contract, when he's 36 years old and making $11.5 million. They also will be in a final guaranteed year at $16 million (with $4 million paid by the Marlins) with Carlos Delgado, who will be 36 then. Billy Wagner will make $10.5 million and be 37 in '08. Carlos Beltran will be making $18.5 million (with $8.5 million of that deferred). Plus, David Wright and Jose Reyes' salaries figure to increase dramatically as they enter arbitration and approach free agency. "He just wants a change," Damon said about Ramirez. "And sometimes in baseball a change is good."

That's because it was his first year at Shea. Every free agent sucks at Shea. What do you think his numbers would be at Fenway?

Look how important it was for the Yankees to have a centerfielder last year. They had horrible defense at that position and it cost them and they knew it. Throw in the fact that they were lacking at the leadoff position and you go out and overspend for a Johnny Damon. I hate theYankees, but they know how to spend money.

By the way, you think Manny is going to be happy waiting to drive in Corey Patterson this year or whatever re-tread is playing there???? They have no choice to move him now. His getting traded is going to happen and unless they eat a ton of that contract to deal with another team, Beltran is the only option for a deal.

But Milledge is really good and I would be sick if they moved him to another team. That's the only reason I would want Manny. With Beltran playing here, there is no room in the outfield for Milledge.

Mets should have never signed Beltran. They should have kept Cameron in CF and when his contract was up, move this kid in. Minaya makes me nuts sometimes.

agreed! Minaya is a jacka$$ at times, but I do like his aggressive approach. Steve Phillips was god awful

Milledge will hopefully be in LF or RF by 2007; he says he doesn't mind switching positions, since the Mets took a chance on him originally
