The '85 Bears defense seems to be the one most remembered, but were they more impressive then the Baltimore Ravens?

The stats say Baltimore with a slight edge, the Bears D way better remembered it seems.

only reason the bears are remembered is because they were the first one to play like that .

the ravens were the better one.

i think teams knew that when they got on the plane to go home after playing the ravens , they were going to be hurting a little..

and probably got monday and tuesday off ..

They were entirely different style defenses, the Bears with the 46 defense, attacked and attacked , the Ravens were more of a wall that made you try to beat them straight up, with the two mammoth tackles Siragusa and Sam Adams, you couldn't run at them, speed on the ends with McCrary and Boulware, and Ray Lewis roaming from the middle.

The Bears had the great pass rusher Richard Dent, Fencik was a devastating hitter, and Singletary was everywhere, Hampton,Perry,Dent and McMichael are better known.

Can't wait for the Illinois boys to get in here and defend their turf.

Ironically, Singletary was Ravens linebacker coach after Jack Del Rio became head man in Jax.

Having said that, give me the 85 Bears!

Remember, this team had to face the GREEN BAY PACKERS twice during the regular season which at the time was the most demanding physical game in football.

Ok but, the Ravens defense had to play along side the Ravens offense :suomi:

Please leave your GB homerisms out of this debate sir:pucking:

Ravens had virtually the same defense in '01 and they proceeded to be rather mediocre. On the other hand, the Bears led the NFL in defense 3 times between '85 and '88.

Hines , I didn't say greatest defense, merely best of these two defenses...the '76 Steelers took a back seat to no team IMO, just a different era altogether.
