Red Sox must REALLY feel they're under the gun to answer the Yanks signing of Damon...I'm sure their fans would rather see them fill their "needs"...They may give Millwood the 4th year he's looking for. Wouldn't they have been better off using that money to resign Damon if he wanted to come back THAT BAD???
from the ego edge:
Kevin Millwood's agent Scott Boras, who only a few days ago, helped complete the deal that sent Johnny Damon to the Yankees, returned to Boston for contract talks between Millwood and Boston.
Earlier in the week, he talked with the Texas Rangers, who offered Millwood a three-year deal worth around $30 million.
Boras is holding out for a four-year deal, though it is questionable if he'll receive that many years from the Red Sox, who were hesitant of giving the same to Pedro Martinez which led to him signing with the New York Mets.
But now, Boston is reeling from the Damon signing and also faced with the prospect of trading Manny Ramirez, so they may give Boras' client what he wants to make a statement to the fans and also the Yankees that they're still a force in the AL.
Boston's primary needs right now are on offense, as they need to replace Damon in center field, Edgar Renteria at short stop (the Miguel Tejada deal is dead, Orioles are in negotiations with the Cubs), and possibly first base.
