Isn't their a formula that you can use to figure out if a scalp is possibile? I know the books have to be under a 100% take, how is it you figure it out and do you guys you this method to find a scalp?
It seems that the only way to find one(scalp), involving a pointspread would be to find positive juice on an event,(example: Vikings -6 -105 at one book and Lions +6 +110 at another book, for a 5 cent scalp). If this is the case wouldn't you have to find a book like Pinny that has a drop down box, for most of these scalps? What other books offer drop down boxes? Am I missing something or am I mostly right?

Scalping yes you'd need Pinny or exchanges (or Bet365 if not barred)... mostly you'd have to do middles if you insist on betting ATS.

so scalping is basically against moneylines for it to be worth it.

Correct. If you have enough books that offer a low-juice line on the ML... That's why baseball is a scalper's favourite sport, 10c lines most everywhere.

Baseball is the arbitragers least favorite sport (in comparison to basketball and football)...or at least it is for me and others I know.

My figures show 1) Baseball, 2) Tennis for pure scalps...

Relatively small movements, but predictable..

This year's football has been better than usual with the advancement of the exchanges, and all that means for money availability, but still..

With an array of OUTS, you should be getting FOOTBALL scalps quite often.

With football and hoops, you'll get the best results by anticipating line moves, rather than reacting to them. That doesn't mean guessing, but acting on the first signs, for which a software solution is likely needed.

I recommend having 2-3+ monitors.

The first signs are not always the right signs.

Especially this bowl season because the line movements have been predictable - the only one I got wrong was the Akron-Memphis line move but it didn't really cost me much because there was a little buyback at the end.

Yup.

It's really easy to fall for a "pump-fake". If I ever get pump faked, it's not going to be on the dog (or against a public team) and that is something I make sure of.

With hoops is that line move your talking about based on the opening move right when it happens or say a few hours before tip? What time of day would you start looking for these moves?

You'll get two sets of moves usually on the day of game (may run into limits with originating lines)..

Set 1 being when the overnights come off, and Set 2 being the hour or so before first tip.

I'm sorry what I meant was are you finding oppurtunites on foot scalps off of moneylines or mainly off of pointspreads? What is the ratio moneyline to pointspread scalps?

Check moneylines vs. pointspreads in the NBA and in the NFL

As far as spreads/ML are concerned, there are many variables. If you study MLs vs spreads, do a few test cases with monopoly money and you should figure it out. Do it separately for different sports, and do it separately for large and small spreads. You should see where you would apply spreads and where you need to go for the ML

A few things to get you started:
  • A half point movement in hoops will move the ML more than a half point movement in foots
  • If you get a half point movement off a key number (from 4 to 4.5 or 7 to 6.5) in foots, its worth more than moving a line from 5.5 to 5
  • Think of 2 and 7 as "sorta-kinda" key numbers in the NBA <>
