I thought I'd seen it all in my time betting horses but this one surprised even me.

In the Leopardstown 1:30 race I had to go against Moscow flyer thinking it had lost it -too old so i bet 200 pounds on Central House @ 3/1 and a 50 pound exacta Central House to beat Hi Cloy (9/1).

The race went as planned Central House leading making all the running. He jumped the final fence and started to draw 3 lengths clear with Hi Cloy staying on from 4th with a chance to get second. However the bad beat gods were looking down at me conjuring a twist that even I could not forsee. 50 yards after jumping the last the jockey on Central House (Roger Loughran) stood up in the saddle and started waving his whip around celebration thinking the race was over. Even when the other horses went past him riding out a finish it didn't seem to dawn on him. And yes Hi Cloy did stay on well to win the race.

So all in all this bad beat cost me 800 pounds on the win and approx 1800 pounds for the exacta -$4700 in you money.

If anyone can top that for a horse racing bad beat i'd love to hear it.

I once had 30 to win and place on a 30-1 shot in a maiden turf race. My horse, who in his previous starts barely nosed out the post parade pony for last, somehow found himself on the lead. He loved the turf, relished the turf, in fact the owner in the stands was chastising the trainer for not trying him on turf sooner. For a moment I thought I had been warped into the 1979 belmont, I mean it looked like Secretariat was reborn. When they got into the stretch, the jockey looked back and thought to himself that maybe the other horses got stuck in the starting gate, but kept on riding nonetheless. One furlong from home my horse had about a 5 length lead, I was at the window ticket in hand telling everyone how smart I was, when inexplicably my idiot horse jumped his own shadow and lept into the rail. After the race the horse was vanned off and probably euthanized, the jockey must have gone to the hospital. Looking back, I feel sorry for the poor horse, but at the time, being a poor college student I was thinking that that horse got what he deserved. I mean the fucker cost me 1500 dollars and probably I crazy night at a strip club.

Basically i did a 200 pound win a 50 exacta in a race which would have come in if the jockey decided not to to stand up in the saddle a 100 yards from the winning line and start waving his whip to the crowd in celebration costing me $4700 in the process.

Jumps racing in Ireland fyi.

Valueman, I apologize for the cretins that have been drinking too much liquor tonight. That is a BAD beat. AND a bad beat for a nice bit of money. Sorry to hear that. I am no horse racing officianado but I can give you the "Bad Beat" Award. The Award that no one wants!

Again, ignore TANG and BaseballGuy..... I'm sure they're six or seven inches into the liquor tonight. Best of luck next time and may your jockey participate in the entire race next time. tulsa

If there was Tony Mccoy riding CH you would have never lost that bet.

20 years ago, I needed Hawaii +13.5 College Football to complete a $400 2 team parlay. Payoff was $400 to win $1040. BYU was favored with Robbie Bosco at QB and Lavelle Edwards was Head Coach. Well with 2:20 to go BYU Got the ball on their own 25 yard line with a 11 point lead. To my surprise BYU passes the ball on their First play, with 2:20 to go and an 11 point lead any team would try and run clock out. After four consecutive pass plays Byu Moved the ball to midfield, about a 1:25 to go. I was freaking out, why the hell are you passing the ball. Well to make a long story short, with under 20 seconds left Byu Completed a pass to the 15 yard line and the receiver was tackled at the 9.5 yard line. Players unpile and the clock is ticking down from 14 seconds, I'm pump my fist like yeah I'm gonna win. No need to run another play. Byu had 1st & goal at 9.5 year line, with clock at 8 seconds an Hawaii DB runs to the ref and calls a timeout. Next Play Bosco Hands to Via Sikia Hemea sweep right dives toward pylon, barely scores with zero seconds on the clock. Loser. To this day I always argue that has to be the worst beat. Years later I found out that Lavelle Edwards was trying to get Bosco some passing records.

That is some crazy sh*t by the OP. This might make you feel a little better.

2 years agoI had the Detroit Tigers on the moneyline to lead after 5 innings against the Texas Rangers

Up 14-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, Texas scores 12 for the push. If Texas scored another run, I couldn't have imagined having that loss shoved up my ass.

I'm sure most of you are too young to remember, but the great Willie Shoemaker did the exact same thing.....but in the Kentucky Derby! While it didn't cost you money, it cost himself the owner and trainer all those big bucks, as well as the betting public who were on the horse!

I'm here and I had €200, as most did, on Central House. I was in Paddy Power's on the second busiest day of the year, (St Stephen's Day being the busiest as Ireland's workers shut down for 2 weeks over Christmas), and there was absolute mayhem. People running around the bookies like a fire alarm was going off, screaming uncontrolably about " finding out where that useless bollox (Roger Loughran) lives" !

Also, the lead story on the six o' clock news last night.
