? about Godfather 2

Ok I have my own question about Godfather 2. What exactly did Fredo do to betray Michael? I know he got caught in a lie down in Cuba (about knowing Johnny Ola) but that wasn't enough to get killed. Can someone clear this up for me?

i think he was pretty tight with hymen roth . and didnt michael blame roth for a hit on him ?

When you watch it again, Fredo pretends he doesnt no Johhny when introduced. Then later Fredo in club tells someone Johhny showed him all over Havana. Michael puts 2+2 togerther.

What does Fredo mean when he says, "They said there would be something in it for me" ?

For what?....telling Roth when Michael would be home for the attempted hit?

That has always confused me.

remember after the attempted hit on mike, fredo gets a phone call in the middle of the night. its johnny ola. he wants more info from fredo and fredo hangs up after saying "you lied to me".

roth saw a weakness in fredo and tried to exploit it. the hit failed and it should have ended there but, old fredo couldnt keep his mouth shut in cuba.

Did he open the curtains in Michael's bedroom? Or did he get Roths' men on the inside of the compound? Or did he go and buy the machine guns for the hitmen?

i assume that johnny ola & roth promised fredo something for giving the info related to the hit on mike.

i dont think anyone knows the answer. he did something that helped them out.

Fredo was tired of being treated like a second class citizen which is why he strayed toward Roth. He wanted a piece of the action and he wrongly thought that tipping off Roth would get that for him. I think he was the one who opened the drapes.

dont forget...fredo is pretty stupid. maybe it was something like "what time does the bodyguard usually go to sleep" or "when do they change shifts".

I've read the book more times than I care to admit, and this is a storyline in the Godfather II movie, not the book.

i've never read the book .. but just figured it went more into detail than the movie..

i stand corrected.

p.s. the last book i read was " the cat in the hat " ..

I read the book back in high school. I remember Johnny Fontain had a much more prominent role in the book compared to the movie. Also there is a version of the Godfather 2 with extra scenes like the murder of Fabrizzio (the guy who killed Michael's wife in part 1).
